Teams of the Week: M-S cross-country in spotlight


The unranked Bulldogs (Class 2A) captured team honors in the 22-school East Peoria Invitational. Lauren Whitehouse and Abigail Nielsen ran seventh and 13th, respectively. The split between the Bulldogs’ first and fifth runners was 1 minute, 5 seconds. Twinkle Mehta, Olivia Meyer and Isabelle Pommier were all among the top 30 finishers.


The Titans (15-8) went 4-0 to win the 10th Arcola Invitational. The team needed to rally from one-set deficits in two pool-play matches. Serving was a strength for the day. Madelyn Cottle landed six aces, Abby Smith had five aces, Heidi Dague had four aces, Kayla McKinney had two aces and Alex Hudson had one ace.


The fourth-seeded Sages (7-5-1) won the St. Teresa Invitational, outscoring three opponents 12-2. Defenders Michael Clark, Ben Menacher, Blake Busby and Matt Blaser were instrumental in the tourney title along with goalkeeper Ryan Schaub (14 saves). Logan Fletcher scored at least one goal in each tourney match.


The state’s second-ranked (by Class 2A Bulldogs were team champions in the East Peoria Invitational. M-S had three underclassman top 10 runners in a field of 208 competitors: Alex Keeble (second), Jackson Powell (seventh) and William Wolf (10th). The split between the first and sixth Bulldogs was 1:05.
