Thursday's highlights: Sages win OVC CC crown

In cross-country

■ At Shelbyville.
Matthew Norvell finished second, leading three teammates in the Top 10 and helping Monticello to the team title at the Okaw Valley Meet at Forest Park. The Sages, who are ranked second in Class 1A in the latest dyestat.com state rankings, had 45 points to edge third-ranked Unity (48) and fourth-ranked Shelbyville (49).

Eric Ponder of fourth-place Tuscola won medalist honors by 14 seconds over Norvell in 15 minutes, 4 seconds.

Justin Furcich was seventh and Jesse Galaway ninth for the Sages.

Unity was led by Andrew Warnes, who was third, and Nick Godsell in sixth.

In the girls’ race, Monticello’s Hannah Houska was third and Emily Foley was fifth to lead the Sages to second place, 27 points behind team champion — and Class 1A No. 1 — St. Teresa. The Sages are ranked second in the state behind the Bulldogs.

Nicole Bagwell was eighth for third-place Unity, and Emma Henderson finished 13th for Tuscola.

In volleyball

■ Centennial 2, St. Thomas More 0.
AYLA DREW had seven kills as the Chargers (23-5) celebrated Senior Night in style with a 25-11, 25-21 nonconference win.

■ BCC 2, Mahomet-Seymour 0. Mason Moore had 16 assists and three aces and Tori Veldman had five kills for the Bulldogs (15-9, 8-4 Corn Belt) in their 25-17, 25-23 loss.

■ Chatham Glenwood 2, Central 1. ALYSSA OLSON had nine kills, MADDIE ATKINSON 12 assists and KATIE SLONIGER 23 digs for the Maroons in their 25-21, 17-25, 25-16 nonconference loss.

■ Normal U-High 2, Rantoul 1. Carson Church and Logan Wascher had eight kills apiece, and Hannah Cargo had 10 blocks, but the Eagles lost 23-25, 25-18, 25-19. Kaylee Denton chipped in 30 assists and Samantha Nigh had 19 digs and four aces for Rantoul.

■ Westville 2, Oakwood 1. Alexa Kantout had four kills, three digs and three blocks as the Tigers rallied 20-25, 25-20, 25-16. Morgan Gallion had six assists, three aces and three digs.

■ St. Teresa 2, Monticello 0. Allie Hislope and Rowan Crozier each had three kills in the Sages’ 25-9, 25-20 defeat.

■ Maroa-Forsyth 2, Unity 0. Lizzy Barnard (six kills) and Lauren Kirby (five) led the Rockets attack in a hard-fought 28-26, 25-22 Okaw Valley loss. Bailey Reifsteck had a double-double (15 assists, 10 digs) for Unity.

■ Meridian 2, Sullivan 0. Emily Neuhauser had seven kills, but the Redskins dropped the OVC match 25-12, 25-17.

■ Clinton 2, Tuscola 0. Taylor Filkin had eight kills and two blocks in the 25-15, 25-7 Okaw Valley win. Hannah Scribner and Lani Little had three kills apiece for the Warriors.

■ Blue Ridge 2, Flanagan-Cornell 0. Gabby Pearl had seven kills and two blocks to lead the host Knights (23-6, 7-5) to a 25-17, 25-20 HOIC victory.

■ Fieldcrest 2, LeRoy 0. Elise Morgan had eight kills, Briana Retter had 16 assists and Kayle Beadles added 13 digs in a 25-17, 25-18 Panthers loss.

■ Arthur-Lovington 2, Bement 0. Jessica Davis had seven kills and Karly Goodman added six to lead the Lancers to a 25-12, 25-20 victory. A-L improved to 22-2 overall and 8-0 in the LOVC. Elaina Wittmer had six kills and Abby Trott handed out 12 assists for the Bulldogs.

■ Shelbyville 2, Argenta-Oreana 0. Gillian Jones led the Bombers with five kills in a 25-13, 25-23 OVC setback.

■ Schlarman 2, Hoopeston Area 0. Jordan Marganski had nine assists, five kills and three blocks to lead the Hilltoppers (15-3, 11-0) to a 25-9, 25-7 VVC victory. Laura Gross added five kills and Shelby Mascari had five kills and four aces for Schlarman.

■ Heritage 2, Villa Grove 0. Cedar Richardson had six kills and Adrian Wilson added five aces to pace the Hawks to a 25-6, 25-9 LOVC victory.

■ Tri-Valley 2, Fisher 0. Olivia Heffernan had six service points, but the Bunnies lost 25-17, 25-15.

■ Salt Fork 2, Chrisman 1. Jenny Kimbro’s 10 kills helped the Storm to a 25-10, 15-25, 25-12 VVC victory. Kalyn Learnard (13 digs, four aces) and Allie Trosper (20 assists) also contributed for Salt Fork (19-5, 10-1). The Cardinals were led by Paige Thevenin’s nine kills.

■ Shiloh 2, Arcola 0. LAUREN MOSES (nine kills, five digs, two blocks) and ANDI LUTH (10 digs, five kills) led surging Shiloh, 25-16, 25-18.

■ Tri-County 2, Martinsville 0. Abby Smith had 13 kills and Alex Hudson had 24 assists as the Titans (22-9, 6-2 LOVC) rolled 25-23, 25-19.

■ A-P 2, G-RF 0. Makenzie Vinson had eight kills, Morgan Zindars 14 assists and Macey Williams four blocks in Armstrong-Potomac’s 25-23 25-8 win.

■ B-H 2, Milford 0. Mary Bass had five kills, 15 digs, eight blocks and four aces as Bismarck-Henning (12-7, 8-3 VVC) won 25-17, 25-19.

■ Cissna Park 2, Clifton Central 0. ADDISON STOLLER had seven kills in the 26-24, 25-23 win.

In girls’ tennis

■ Urbana 7, Eisenhower 0.
Brittany Webb and Val Stafford won in singles and doubles to lead a shutout victory for the Tigers, who won all five singles matches in straight sets.
