URBANA UNI HIGH GIRLS’ SWIMMING

Despite having no divers, the Illineks won the Twin City crown by more than 77 points. Maddie Nelson won two individual events and was on two winning relays. Sarah Lee won one event and was on all three victorious relays. Claire Dickerson won one event and was part of two first-place relays.

HOOPESTON AREA GIRLS’ CROSS-COUNTRY

Coach Rich Stipp’s Cornjerkers had five all-county runners as the school tied Salt Fork’s record for overall consecutive championships with its eighth in a row at Kickapoo State Park. The team leaders were Hannah Bray, Shania Goble, Olivia Huls, Karsen Root and Maddie Brown.

Despite a one-point loss (14-13) in their regular season finale to rival Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley, the Bunnies warrant recognition for their body of work. Coach Matt Leng’s squad is the most improved area team record-wise from 2012, improving its record from 2-7 to 6-3.

G-RF/CHRISMAN BOYS’ CROSS-COUNTRY

Coach Jodi Thomas’ Buffaloes won the program’s 16th Vermilion County championship in the past 24 years thanks to an effort that included all-county recognition for six squad members: Wyatt Avenatti, Colton Wyatt, Lane Avenatti, Kile McKee, Ben Brinkley and Brandon Brinkley.
