Thursday's prep highlights: PBL volleyball wins, reaches 20-win mark

SVC/RVC Tournament

Paxton-Buckley-Loda 2, Grant Park 0. Paxton-Buckley-Loda downed Grant Park 25-15, 25-11 during a quarterfinal win at Kankakee Community College and advanced to a 6 p.m. semifinal match on Saturday. Addison Oyer compiled seven kills to pace the Panthers (20-8), while Lexi Johnson added five kills and Abbie Schmidt had 14 assists.

Cissna Park 2, Illinois Lutheran 0. The Timberwolves took down Illinois Lutheran 25-17, 25-19 during a quarterfinal win. Erica Walder and Sloan Boyce each tallied seven kills for Cissna Park (21-6-2), with Anna Jennings (22 assists), and Audrey Kaeb (six digs) chipping in.

Watseka 2, Gardner-South Wilmington 0. Watseka won its eighth straight match with a convincing 25-18, 25-12 quarterfinal triumph to set up a semifinal match against Cissna Park at 5 p.m. on Saturday. Kennedy Bauer supplied 13 kills, Cassie Peters handed out 11 assists and Mallory Drake made 21 digs for Watseka (19-10).

Nontournament

Argenta-Oreana 2, Bement 0. The visiting Bombers had little trouble in a 25-8, 25-17 win. Madelyn Tipsword (nine kills) and Camilyn Newbanks (20 assists) guided the offense for A-O (14-12) against the Bulldogs (2-19).

Blue Ridge 2, Arcola 0. The host Knights moved past the Purple Riders with a 25-16, 25-12 win. Jessie Wanserski (10 kills, nine digs) and Polly Reynolds (nine kills) were forces at the net, with Avery Fisher (17 assists) and Hannah Brackenhoff (13 digs) also contributing for Blue Ridge (28-5) against Arcola (7-20).

Cerro Gordo 2, Sangamon Valley 0. The Broncos produced a 25-18, 25-13 home win. Sydney Walker had six kills, with Kali Walker and Riley Brandenburg each adding four kills. Ella Mann directed the offense with 17 assists for Cerro Gordo (22-5).

Danville 2, Peoria Manual 0. The host Vikings (16-14) cruised to a 25-9, 25-6 win against the Rams in Big 12 action. Savanna Rudy finished with seven kills, Audri Hyde dished out 20 assists and Kaitlyn Loewenstein contributed six aces.

Eureka 2, Ridgeview 0. The Mustangs couldn't pick up a Heart of Illinois Conference win, falling 25-7, 25-17 at home. Mya Tinsley (three kills, five blocks) and River Rosales (eight digs) led Ridgeview (10-18).

Fisher 2, LeRoy 0. The visiting Bunnies held on for their first HOIC win and snapped an 11-match losing streak with a 25-14, 25-22 victory. Casey Wagner (four kills, four digs) and Cameron McGrew (four digs, four assists) led Fisher (3-20), while Molly White (seven kills) and Morgan Shreves (14 digs) paced LeRoy (7-16).

Georgetown-Ridge Farm 2, Armstrong-Potomac 1. The host Buffaloes rallied for an 18-25, 25-8, 25-18 Vermilion Valley Conference win, the fifth straight victory for G-RF (11-7). Whitney Harper (11 kills), Kasie Anderson (eight kills), Taylor Stal (seven kills) and Raine Ray (six kills) sparked a balanced offense for G-RF, with Lacey Steinbaugh (28 assists) and Sydnie Spires (11 digs) chipping in. Sarah Porter (11 kills, eight digs), Maddie Buhr (six kills), Emma Franzen (nine assists, four aces) and Destiny Fitzsimmons (17 digs) contributed for A-P (15-12).

Heritage 2, Hutsonville 1. The Hawks prevailed 25-12, 22-25, 25-14. Bree Buck (nine kills, three blocks) and Aliya Holloman (eight kills, eight digs) powered Heritage (20-5) to the home win.

Mahomet-Seymour 2, Effingham 1. The visiting Bulldogs won for the sixth time in their last seven matches with a 25-27, 25-22, 25-20 Apollo Conference win. Savannah Matthews produced a double-double (24 kills, 17 digs) and Lauren Minick complemented Matthews with 13 kills. Kayin Garner (34 assists) and Josie Hess (18 digs, three aces) also pitched in for M-S (16-10).

Monticello 2, Pontiac 0. The visiting Sages swept the Indians in a 25-13, 25-22 Illini Prairie Conference win. Amanda Butler delivered nine kills, Allie Carr finished with 11 assists and 10 digs and Kalen Roy dropped in 11 assists for Monticello (14-12).

Oakwood 2, Westville 0. The host Comets won 25-17, 25-14 in VVC play for Oakwood's fourth straight win. Katelyn Young had 11 kills, with Kerrigan Shafer, Alyssa Romito and Kylie Neuman all adding four kills and McKenzie Doan posting 17 assists for Oakwood (17-9). Emily Jordan (three kills, four assists, 10 digs) led Westville (6-9).

Prairie Central 2, Olympia 1. The host Hawks earned a 23-25, 25-16, 25-12 win in IPC action. Lindsey Hari (12 kills) and Amber Graf (10 kills) each contributed at the net for Prairie Central (21-11).

St. Thomas More 2, Unity 0. STM edged the host Rockets in a closely contested 25-23, 26-24 IPC victory. Allie Trame finished with seven kills for the Sabers (24-4), while Kayla Brandon (six kills, seven digs) and Caroline Kerr (20 assists) helped out. Lily Glanzer and Emma Bleecher each had six kills for Unity (22-6), with Haley Glanzer (12 assists) and Ella Godsell(10 digs) also chipping in.

Salt Fork 2, Chrisman 1. The visiting Storm prevailed 22-25, 25-17, 25-19 in VVC play, ending a three-match losing streak for Salt Fork (7-18). Haley Chaney (10 kills) and Hannah Lunger (21 assists) led the way for Chrisman (4-17).

Schlarman 2, Hoopeston Area 0. The visiting Hilltoppers managed to end a four-match losing streak with a 20-25, 25-21, 25-8 VVC win against the Cornjerkers (3-20). Emma Bogen (12 kills), CeCe Damilano (three kills, nine assists) and Ana Fitzgerald (six assists) contributed significantly for Schlarman (9-12).

Tri-County 2, Martinsville 0. The visiting Titans rolled to their 12th straight win, knocking off the Bluestreaks 25-13, 25-13. Grace Burnside (nine kills, six aces), Kaylenn Hunt (eight kills) and Morgan Houia (17 assists) all played a pivotal role for Tri-County (20-4).

Tri-Valley 2, Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley 0. Jessica Freehill put down five kills, while Mady Schutte (eight assists) and Madi Eberle (eight digs) contributed for GCMS, but a 25-13, 25-12 road loss in HOIC action ensued for the Falcons (9-14).

Tuscola 2, Meridian 0. The visiting Warriors won for the seventh time in their last eight matches with a 25-23, 25-12 Central Illinois Conference victory. Katie Dean (12 kills), Jessie Martin (24 assists) and Natalie Bates (10 digs) paced Tuscola (16-9).

Uni High 2, Danville First Baptist 0. The host Illineks won 25-15, 25-18 to claim their first win of the season. Lara Marinov served 10 aces to spark Uni High (1-16) and Prithika Ravi had six kills.

In boys' soccer

Champaign Central 9, Rantoul 0. The host Maroons (18-4) won the nonconference regular season finale for both programs, with Santiago Rodriquez recording three goals and three assists and Spencer Bauer adding two goals against the Eagles (6-12-1).

Mahomet-Seymour 8, Taylorville 0. Graham Kessler scored the first goal of his high school career, Alec Marsh netted two goals and Kadyn Jones supplied three assists as M-S (14-3-5) closed out the regular season with an Apollo Conference road victory.

In boys' cross-country

At Clinton. Clinton compiled 31 points to win the six-team Central Illinois Conference Meet at Weldon Springs State Park. Ethan Black placed second in 16 minutes, 45.94 seconds to pace the Maroons, while teammate Ty Brennan was third (16:57.37). Noah Woods finished fourth (16:59.33) and teammate JD Barrett was sixth (17:04.31) to lead Tuscola, which placed second.

At Paxton. Lucas Alvarez of Iroquois West posted the top area time in 17 minutes, 44 seconds at Paxton-Buckley-Loda's End of the Season Meet to help the Raiders place second. PBL finished third.

In girls' cross-country

At Clinton. Payne Turney of Clinton won the Central Illinois Conference Meet with a time of 18 minutes, 23.40 seconds at Weldon Springs State Park as the Maroons finished fourth at the five-team meet. Brynn Tabeling placed fifth (20:21.19) and Ashton Smith (21:17.17) finished 10th to help Tuscola earn third place.

At Paxton. Gracie Eighner of Hoopeston Area finished third and had the top local time at Paxton-Buckley-Loda's End of the Season Meet in 22 minutes, 1 second. Iroquois West placed second and PBL was third.
