Bulletin board: Central's Woods commits to Spartans

CHAMPAIGN — Team chemistry was important to Payton Woods when picking a college, even though the Champaign Central senior swimmer takes part in an individual sport.

In addition to Michigan State’s business school and the culture in East Lansing, Mich., that’s why Woods committed to swim for the Spartans last week.

After not fielding a full team last year, the Comets advanced to sectionals by finishing sixth at the Paxton-Buckley-Loda Regional. Senior Jon Davis won the meet, Lucas Vasquez was 34th and a trio of freshmen contributed.

Regional cross-country roundup: Davis, Cultra win races

PAXTON — When it comes to all-out 3-mile races, Oakwood’s Jon Davis is without peers in Class 1A.

But in 200-meter sprints, that’s not necessarily the case.

■ Urbana 8, Georgetown-Ridge Farm/Westville 0. Magnus Parente recorded a hat trick and had an assist on one of two goals scored by Ndusino Madela as the Tigers advanced to Saturday’s regional final on their home field.

Teams of the Week: B-H boys' golf leads way

Hunter Keith led the way with a two-round score of 176 as Bismarck-Henning finished 10th at the Class 1A state meet. Skyler Mitchell finished with a score of 181, Blake Douglass shot 187 and Kade Smith carded a 190.

Mahomet-Seymour boys’ cross-country

Why he was chosen: The Mahomet-Seymour senior won the Corn Belt title last Saturday with a time of 14 minutes, 36.81 seconds, guiding the Bulldogs to the team title as well in Eureka.
