Leeman powers Oakwood
OAKWOOD – Brady Leeman tossed a complete-game one-hitter, fanning eight in Oakwood's 4-0 win against Milford (7-2) in baseball on Thursday. Milford's Kris Evans led off the game with a single and was subsequently picked off of first base by Leeman (2-0).
"Brady spotted every pitch today," Oakwood coach Bob Sermak said. "He threw a tremendous game, probably the best I have seen him in the four years he has been here."
Casey Fletcher hit two doubles and drove in two runs for the Comets (6-2).
St. Joseph-Ogden 10, Tri-Point 0. Lucas Gones had two hits and two RBI for the Spartans (5-9).
Rantoul 19, Tuscola 15. Tyler Myers drove in three runs and Cody Flowers had three hits for the host Eagles (6-3).
Clifton Central 15, CPCI 5. Ross Munsterman (two RBI) and Kyle Popham (two runs) each had two hits for the visiting Timberwolves.
Meridian 5, Arthur-Lovington 2. Adam Carver went 3 for 3 and stole three bases for the host Knights.
GCMS 4, Armstrong-Potomac 0. Christian Rosenbeck tossed a one-hit shutout, striking out eight for the visiting Falcons (6-4).
Clinton 10, Blue Ridge 3. Josh Shride had two hits and three RBI for the host Maroons (5-1). Trenton Weddle went 3 for 3 with two doubles for the Knights (5-7).
Fisher 13, Lexington 3. Miles Gosser had four RBI to lead the host Bunnies (6-7). John Demblon and Dillon Jones had two hits and two RBI each.
Bismarck-Henning 14, Seeger (Ind.) 2. Adam Baker went 3 for 4 with a grand slam for the visiting Blue Devils (3-7). Jordan Ellis had four RBI.
Iroquois West 6-3, Watseka 2-5. Kyle Clark's grand slam powered the Warriors in Game 1. Dylan DeFauw drove in two runs to lead Watseka in Game 2.
Urbana 10, Charleston 8. Ben Thompson had three hits and drove in four runs for the visiting Tigers.
Hoopeston Area 12, Westville 6. Tate Compton, Clayton Snyder and Ethan Ervin each had two hits for the host Cornjerkers (7-3).
LeRoy 1, Flanagan 0. Tyler Bruning had two hits for the host Panthers.
North Vermillion (Ind.) 6, Georgetown-Ridge Farm 5. Blake Wadsworth had two hits and two RBI for the visiting Buffaloes.
In softball
Watseka 4, Tri-Point 1. Winning pitcher Katie LaVoie went 2 for 3 for the host Warriors (6-5), who got a home run from Dakota Bohlman.
St. Joseph-Ogden 23-19, Iroquois West 0-1. Emily Harms hit three home runs and drove in 10 runs for the host Spartans. Audra James had eight hits and stole four bases, and Hannah Bowen had six hits and three RBI.
Fountain Central (Ind.) 4, Bismarck-Henning 2. The visiting Blue Devils (3-9) jumped ahead 2-1 after four innings but couldn't hold on.
Westville 6, Danville 5. Winning pitcher Taylor Cedar (eight strikeouts) scored the game-winning run on a single by Taylor Poggendorf in the seventh inning to lift the host Tigers. Elizabeth Comrie and Kaitlyn Phillips each had two hits for the Vikings (2-5).
Champaign Central 6, St. Teresa 3. Monica Rondon had two hits, including a home run, for the visiting Maroons (2-4). Carissa Hoyne, Kimberly Mowrey and Maeve Aquino all had two hits apiece.
Tuscola 12, Urbana 2. Freshman Sam Ledbetter went 3 for 3 and drove in three runs for the visiting Warriors. Molly Romine and Mariah Brookins each had two RBI for Tuscola.
Fisher 17, Lexington 0. Caleigh Hennigh struck out 10 in the five-inning contest. Lindsay Williams (three hits) and Jacey Eichelberger each drove in three runs.
Clinton 10, Ridgeview 4. Jamie Rockhols had two RBI for the visiting Maroons.
Blue Ridge 8, Villa Grove 3. Jordan Watts had two hits and drove in four runs for the host Knights (6-1). Marcie Crawford drove in a pair of runs in the win.
Unity 6, Oakwood 1. Ana Deters tossed a one-hitter, striking out seven. Ali Finn and Megan Swigart each drove in two runs for Unity (5-5).
Sullivan 5, Arcola 4. Heather Clements drove in a pair of runs for the visiting Redskins (9-2). Kim Fortney homered, tripled and drove in two runs for the Purple Riders (1-6)
In girls' track and field
At Centralia. Centennial's 1,600-meter relay team finished secnd and the 3,200 relay team third at the Annies Invitational. The Chargers, who finished fifth out of 13 teams, got a third-place showing from Claire Tortorelli in the 1,600 (5:49).
At Monticello. Lydia Mitchell claimed victories in the 100 hurdles, 300 hurdles and the high jump, leading Unity to a first-place finish in a triangular with Monticello and Champaign Central. Monticello's Allissa Burguard won the 100 and the 200.
At Catlin. Hannah Wilkins posted wins in the shot put (38-3) and the discus (110-4) in leading Salt Fork to a first-place finish in a triangular meet with Villa Grove and Westville. Emily Walch (800 meters, 1,600) was a double winner for second-place Villa Grove.
At Seeger, Ind. Jeni Free (shot put, discus) and Sarah Wells (100 hurdles, 300 hurdles) each claimed a pair of wins for Bismarck-Henning, which won the triangular. Kari Free (800) and Samantha Siddens (400) also had first-place finishes.
At Champaign. Ashley Robertson (discus), Bria Olson (high jump), Rachel Ballard (long jump), Merry Gilly (100 hurdles), Chelsea Blaase (400) and Jolee Paden (1,600) were all individual winners for St. Joseph-Ogden in the Spartans' win at the five-team Saber Invitational at St. Thomas More.
At Rantoul. Freshman Destinee Butler (400, discus, triple jump) was a triple winner for Urbana in a quad meet with Rantoul, Decatur Eisenhower and Normal West.
In boys' track and field
At Catlin. Alex McMahon posted wins in the 100 (11.12) and 200 (23.41), leading Westville to a first-place finish in a triangular against Villa Grove and Salt Fork. Other double winners were Westville's Jacob Gooch (1,600, 3,200), and Villa Grove's Michael Pearce (shot put, discus) and Jacob Palmer (long jump, 300 hurdles).
At Monticello. Denzel Stewart swept the 100 (11.10) and the 200 (23.00) in leading Champaign Central to a win against Unity and Monticello in a triangular. CHarlie Hill (110 hurdles, high jump) and Matt Foran (discus, shot put) were double winners for the Sages.
At Champaign. Jake Firkins (shot put), Tyler Rhodes (300 hurdles) Austin Allen (400) and Nick Bailey (triple jump) were individual winners for St. Joseph-Ogden in the Spartans' win at the six-team Saber Invitational at St. Thomas More.
At South Vermillion (Ind.). Daniel Wells won the 1,600 and David Ellermets won the 800 for Danville First Baptist in a triangular with Rockville (Ind.) and SOuth Vermillion.
In boys' tennis
At Champaign. Joel Yambert and Keegan Bannon won their doubles match to break a 4-4 tie, leading Champaign Central to a 5-4 win against Normal Community. Yambert and Bannon also posted wins in singles.
In girls' soccer
Urbana 1, Champaign Central 0. Kate Russell scored off a pass from Lauren Fritzsche in the second half for the visiting Tigers. Aubrey Morse stopped eight shots.
Urbana University 2, Monticello 0. Joy Shapley scored twice to lead the visiting Illineks.
Mahomet-Seymour 3, BCC 0. Shelby McDonald and Terrisa Nevin scored unassisted goals and Kara Breedlove scored off a pass from Kelsie Donley for the visiting Bulldogs. Hillary Veitch stopped five shots.
Springfield 5, Danville 0. Devon Watkins stopped 17 shots for the host Vikings (0-2-1).
