Urbana opens soccer tourney with win

QUINCY — Adam Blackman scored on a penalty kick and assisted on a goal by Jon Lukusa to lead Urbana (2-0) to a 2-0 boys’ prep soccer victory against Kirksville (Mo.) on Friday in the Quincy Midwest Classic. Tigers keeper Julian Threlkeid had five saves to record his second shutout of the season.

Danville falls in shootout.
Despite outshooting Herscher 17-8, Danville lost its season opener in a penalty shootout at the Bradley-Bourbonnais Invitational. After a 1-1 tie in regulation, Herscher outscored the Vikings 5-3. Jose Tapia scored for Danville in the 24th minute on a free kick.

In boys' golf:

M-S wins tournament. Garrett Cox and Seth Trolia each shot 71s to lead Mahomet-Seymour to the title of the Champaign Central Invitational at the University of Illinois Golf Course in Savoy. The Bulldogs finished at 286, 5 strokes better than runner-up Edwardsville.

In volleyball:

Greer sparks First Baptist. Jessica Greer had nine kills, eight digs and 10 service aces to lead Danville First Baptist to a 25-17, 25-15 victory against Crosspoint Christian Academy.
