Prep roundup: Chargers roll in volleyball

CHAMPAIGN – Melanie Moore dished out 22 assists and Cori Harris belted nine kills and three aces for Centennial in a 25-15, 25-17 season-opening volleyball victory against Peoria Richwoods on Thursday. Morgan Leach added six kills for the Chargers.

At Gilman. Haley Pence had four kills and Hilary Zirkle added seven kills for Iroquois West in a 25-22, 25-11 loss to Ridgeview.

At Monticello. Janna Buck had 17 assists and Bria Olson added eight kills and four blocks for St. Joseph-Ogden in a 25-18, 25-18 win against Monticello.

At Urbana. Amy Martin's nine kills and nine aces and Tara Mitchell's 15 kills powered Oakwood to a 25-9, 25-22 win against Urbana University High.

At Mahomet. Alina Altmyer had five aces and nine digs and Alex Peimore added five digs for Champaign Central in a 25-23, 25-18 win against Mahomet-Seymour.

At Villa Grove. Amanda Phelps had six aces and Katie Davis contributed seven kills for Arthur in a 25-11, 25-10 win against Villa Grove.

At Argenta. Taylor Brunner's double-double of 10 kills and 10 digs powered Argenta-Oreana to a 25-21, 29-27 win against DeLand-Weldon.

At Sullivan. Rachel Pollock had six assists and four digs for Sullivan in a 25-21, 25-17 win against Windsor.

At Atwood. Shelby Helfrich collected 10 kills for Atwood-Hammond in an 18-25, 25-11, 25-21 win against Decatur Christian.

At Bement. Stefanie Gaitros recorded a team-high 11 kills and Tara Phelps added 10 for Cerro Gordo in the Broncos' 25-23, 22-25, 25-22 win against Bement.

At Paxton. Taylor Rubarts had 11 kills and Kelsey Stagen added 23 assists for Paxton-Buckley-Loda in a 25-21, 17-25, 25-18 loss to Tri-Valley.

At Fairbury. Abby Popejoy had 11 kills and eight digs and Kaley Corban contributed 24 assists for Prairie Central in a 21-25, 25-5, 25-21 win against Herscher.

At Danville. Karyn Huff had four kills and four blocks for Danville in a 25-11, 15-25, 25-14 loss to Bismarck-Henning.

At Armstrong. Taylor Franzen had 12 kills and Kourtney Newell 27 assists for Armstrong-Potomac in a 25-17, 21-25, 15-7 win against Shiloh.

At Danville. Emily Schiro had 13 assists and seven digs for Schlarman in a 25-16, 25-17 win against Salt Fork in the Hilltopper Classic. St. Thomas More beat Paris 25-15, 25-6 and Schlarman 24-26, 25-18, 25-16 to win the championship.

In boys' soccer:

Blue Ridge 5, Unity 2. Jonathan Malone scored a pair of goals for the visiting Knights. Kevin Price added a goal and two assists for Blue Ridge.

Oakwood 8, Danville First Baptist 0. Kegan Decker recorded a hat trick, scoring the first three goals of the match for the host Comets. Logan Cronk added a pair of goals for Oakwood.

Hoopeston Area/Bismarck-Henning 7, Georgetown-Ridge-Farm 1. Kraig VanWieringen scored a pair of goals and assisted on another for the host Cornjerkers.

Judah Christian 7, Lovington/Sullivan 0. Juan Huan Lee recorded a hat trick and added an assist for the visiting Tribe. Alex Berry scored a goal and added three assists.

Fisher/GCMS 2, Iroquois West 0. Chase Kelley scored both goals for the visiting Bunnies.

Watseka 5, Heyworth 3. Todd Lyznicki scored twice for the host Warriors.

Urbana Uni High 4, Mahomet-Seymour 2. Joel Clark had a goal and an assist for visiting Mahomet-Seymour.

In boys' golf:

At Danville. Alex Muehl, Zane Dillon and Nathan Tissier all carded 41s for Schlarman in a dual win against Westville at Harrison Park.

At Monticello. Daly O'Brien fired a 1-over 37 to earn medalist honors for Monticello in a win against Westville at Monticello Golf Club. Clint Brubaker carded a 40 for Monticello.

At Momence. Kyle Pool and Brandon Fancher each carded 51s for Iroquois West, which finished third in a triangular meet at South Shore Golf Club.

In girls' golf:

At Bloomington. Jordan Riddle earned medalist honors with a 49 in LeRoy's dual win against Bloomington.

At Fairbury. Medalist Emily Spangler carded a 41 for Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley in a win against Prairie Central and Dwight.

In boys' cross-country:

At Rossville. Gerogetown-Ridge Farm/Chrisman's Matt Avenatti finished first in the Buffaloes' victory in a quad meet with Clifton Central, Hoopeston Area and St. Anne at Christman Park.

In girls' cross-country:

At Rossville. Hoopeston Area's Belinda Cohen was the winner in a four-team meet at Christman Park.

In girls' tennis:

At Watseka. Lauren Watts won her No. 1 singles match 8-0 for the visiting Warriors, who beat Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley 7-1.

At Mount Zion. Maddie Baillon won her No. 1 singles match 6-0, 6-0 in St. Thomas More's 6-3 victory against Mount Zion.
