Newman sisters power Central swimming

CHAMPAIGN – Emma Newman won two individual events and helped two relays to victory Wednesday as Champaign Central downed Danville 108-77 in a girls' swimming dual meet at Unit 4 Pool.

The other two-event individual winner was the Vikings' Lauren Drennan. Central's Hannah Newman swam on all three of the Maroons' first-place relays. Emma Newman's wins came in the 100- and 200-yard freestyle races. Drennan won the 200 individual medley and the 100 butterfly.

In girls' golf:

At Savoy. Central's Kathryn Ikenberry shot a 4-over-par 41 to take medalist honors in a two-school meet. Teammate Jane Choo had a 44. Jordan Landeck's 55 led Shiloh.

At Gibson City. St. Thomas More's Claire Dabrowski (44) and McKenzie Stipes (46) led the Sabers past Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley and Tri-Valley at Railside. Emily Spangler's 49 led GCMS.

At Sheldon. Medalist Michelle Villafria shot a 45 and was the medalist by 3 strokes, leading Watseka past Iroquois West, Grant Park and Kankakee at Shewami. Kari Clark's 51 led Iroquois West.

At LeRoy. LeRoy's Molly Marcum and Mahomet-Seymour's Charlotte Goss tied for first with 44s in a dual where the Bulldogs edged the Panthers at LeRoy Country Club.

In boys' golf:

At Danville. Medalist David Keenan fired a 2-over-par 38 to lead Salt Fork past Schlarman at Danville Country Club. Oakwood's Casey Fletcher (40) was followed by the Storm's Sawyer Howe (42), Schlarman's Greyson Pasco (43) and Salt Fork's Jordan Danzl (43).

At Danville. St. Thomas More teammates Ben Dodds and Nathan Khachaturian shared medalist honors (par 36s) as the Sabers topped Bismarck-Henning at Harrison Park. Teammate Matthew Tate fired a 39. Stephen Krout and Tyler Moews led B-H with 44s.

At LeRoy. Monticello's Clint Brubaker and Daly O'Brien shot 1-over-par 37s to lead the Sages past Mahomet-Seymour and LeRoy at LeRoy Country Club. Lyle Burns' 38 led M-S.

At Rantoul. Urbana's C.G. Facer (41) was the medalist in a meet won by Rantoul. Chris Meuser (43) and Jacob Frerichs (45) led the Eagles.

At Sheldon. Derek Wengert's 39 led Watseka (9-1) past Iroquois West at Shewami. Teammate Bradley Crabtree shot a 40.
