Berry, Huggett help keep Tribe perfect

CHAMPAIGN – Alex Berry's unassisted goal in the second half lifted unbeaten Judah Christian past St. Thomas More 1-0 in boys' soccer Saturday. Chris Huggett registered his third shutout for the Tribe (6-0-0).

Oakwood 4, SJ-O 0. Kegan Decker scored twice and Logan Cronk had a goal and an assist for host Oakwood.

Normal C. 6, Centennial 1. Brent Loth scored for the visiting Chargers.

Charleston 1, M-S 0. John Kennedy had four saves for host Mahomet-Seymour.

Uni High 12, Sullivan-Lovington 0. Patrick Wong scored four goals and Tarik Koric had a goal and four assists.

In volleyball:

At Mahomet. Tri-Valley, led by all-tournament picks Holly Hammer and Katrina Colclasure, went 5-0 to win the Bulldog Invitational.

Champaign Central was third as Alex Pelmore was all-tourney. Fifth-place Urbana was led by all-tourney picks Mariah Burgess and Molly Facer. Other all-tourney selections: Mahomet-Seymour's Abbie Magrini, St. Joseph-Ogden's Bria Olson and Rantoul's LaKimya Wade.

At Attica (Ind.). Courtney Reinken had 28 kills, Alexis Walsh 15 blocks and Samantha Siddens five aces as Bismarck-Henning went 2-1 to finish second in tournament play.

At Gibson City. Jelena Verkler had seven kills as Watseka beat Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley 25-17, 25-17. Kayla Haggart had three aces for the Falcons.

At Arthur. Katie Davis had 37 kills and Marchita Garza had 11 aces to lead the hosts to third place at the Lancer Classic.

At Pana. Jessica Greer and Brittani Wasson were named all-tournament for Danville First Baptist, which placed second. Greer had 14 kills and six blocks, and Rachel Wells had five kills and two blocks.

In cross-country:

Lanphier Invitational. In the girls' race, Brittany Bohn was 16th for fifth-place M-S. Urbana's Zita Hubler was 17th. In the boys' race, Henry Wolf was 14th and John Prillaman was 15th for fifth-place M-S.

At Peoria. Centennial's Ryan Root topped his career best by 18 seconds to finish seventh at the Woodruff Invitational. Root finished in 15 minutes, 32 seconds as the Chargers placed 25th. Blas Garcia-Canga bettered his top season mark by more than 30 seconds to finish 59th.

In the Class 1A race, Nathan Smith was 14th and Albert Anastasio was 17th as Urbana University High finished fourth.

In the girls' Class 2A race, Neli Crawford was 32nd as Centennial was 11th. In Class 1A, Elizabeth Russell was 45th as Uni High placed 16h.

In girls' tennis:

Mattoon Invitational. Emma Peck and Melissa Fuesting went 2-1 to finish second at No. 1 doubles for Danville.

In golf:

Mattoon Invitational. Seth Trolia tied for 14th as Mahomet-Seymour placed eighth.

Normal Community Invite. Lizzy Dombroski shot an 83 as Centennial placed 19th.

Irish Invitational. Alexis Freund shot an 85 and Megan Deedrich 87 as St. Thomas More finished fourth at Kankakee.
