Tuesday's highlights: Central tops soccer rival

CHAMPAIGN – Marc Martindale scored unassisted with 15 minutes left to lead Champaign Central to a 1-0 victory against Normal Community in a key Big 12 Conference soccer match Tuesday.

Both teams are expected to contend for the conference title.

“It feels great, but it was just a great team effort,” Martindale said.

Tanner Goslin made six saves for the Maroons (4-0).

The match was one of three the Maroons will play this fall on the University of Illinois artificial turf fields on First Street.

Oakwood 2, Urbana Uni 1. Keeper Ben Schmit made 13 saves and Conner Youhas scored on a second-half penalty kick to lift the host Comets (5-4-1). Dan Lilly scored for the Illineks.

First Baptist 3, Urbana Uni JV 3. Daniel Wells scored twice for the Knights.

Judah Christian 2, Mahomet-Seymour 0. Jason Mills scored on an assist from Alex Berry in the first half for the Tribe (7-0).

Urbana 2, Normal West 2. Jonathan Lukusa scored twice and keeper Julian Threlkeld made 11 saves for the host Tigers (3-3-1, 2-0-1 Big 12).

Salt Fork/Westville 6, Georgetown-Ridge Farm 3. Colton Parr scored four times for the hosts. Clayton Hawkins added a pair. Ryan Howard had two goals for the Buffaloes.

Danville 3, Mattoon 1. Blake Janesky scored twice and Jose Tapia added a goal for the host Vikings (4-5-1, 2-1 Big 12).

Hoopeston/Bismarck-Henning 2, Schlarman 0. Max Steinbaugh scored twice and Tyler Davis stopped 10 shots for the visiting Cornjerkers.

In volleyball:

At Westville. Chrisman improved to 9-0 with a 25-17, 25-23 victory against Westville. Shelby Ross had five kills, and Dana Mitchell contributed 10 assists. Morgan Ritchie had 19 digs for the Tigers.

At Watseka. Becca Millage had eight kills and Jenna Einck seven as St. Thomas More defeated Watseka 25-21, 25-23. The Warriors got eight kills from Katie Cowan.

At Bethany. Okaw Valley beat Villa Grove 25-19, 25-17 despite five kills from Megan Pratt.

At Danville. Morgan King's four kills paced Danville in a 25-16, 25-17 loss to Normal Community.

At Hoopeston. Serena Calhoun had six kills and five blocks in Schlarman's 25-6, 25-11 win against Hoopeston Area. Emily Schiro added 14 assists. Maggie Bartley's five blocks led the Cornjerkers.

At Gilman. St. Joseph-Ogden beat Iroquois West 25-13, 25-18 as Bria Olson collected 10 kills and Janna Buck added 17 assists.

At Farmer City. Kaitlyn Zelhart's 11 kills led Blue Ridge past Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley 25-19, 25-13.

At Milford. Courtney Reinken had five kills, eight digs and two aces to lead Bismarck-Henning in a 25-7, 25-13 win against Milford.

At Cerro Gordo. Emma Getche had nine kills and three aces as Tri-County dumped Cerro Gordo 19-25, 25-23, 25-22. Stefanie Gaitros and Tara Phelps had five kills for the Broncos.

At Cissna Park. Taylor Redeker had six aces and Ashlyn Kaeb added five kills in CPCI's 25-10, 25-13 win against Tri-Point.

At Danville. First Baptist edged Chillicothe Calvary Baptist 25-20, 25-23 behind 13 kills and six digs from Jessica Greer.

At Lovington. Shelby Graves' 11 kills propelled Shiloh (4-3) to a 25-12, 25-21 victory against Lovington.

At Urbana. Rachel Harmon collected 11 kills and five blocks in Urbana Uni's 19-25, 25-9, 26-24 win against Normal Calvary Christian.

At Arcola. Arthur got 10 kills from Katie Davis and rallied for a 22-25, 25-12, 25-14 win against Arcola.

At Catlin. Heather Baker's 18 kills and nine blocks sparked Salt Fork's 13-25, 25-15, 25-18 victory against Armstrong-Potomac. Maddy Stutsman added 36 assists.

In tennis:

Normal West 7, Urbana 2. Katarina Marjanovic scored a straight-sets win at No. 1 singles and teamed with Allie Shapira for a victory at No. 1 doubles for the visiting Tigers.

In boys' cross-country:

At Urbana. Tom Pacey (16 minutes, 59 seconds) of Paxton-Buckley-Loda was the individual winner in a five-team meet won by Urbana Uni.

In girls' cross-country:

At Urbana. Uni High took team honors and Judah Christian's Laura Jarrett (22:48) was the individual winner.

In boys' golf:

At Windsor. Brock Miller's 38 was good for medalist as Arcola/Arthur beat Windsor and Shiloh at Angus Links.

At Normal. Robb Cozad shot 36 to lead Centennial past Normal Community and Normal West at Ironwood Golf Course.

At Champaign. Ben Dodds earned medalist honors with a 1-under-par 34 at Champaign Country Club in St. Thomas More's loss against Effingham St. Anthony.

At Normal. Ridgeview placed fifth in the 12-team Heyworth Invitational, led by runner-up Jared Atherton's 39 at Weibring Golf Club. Clinton was sixth.

At Frankfort. Bradley Crabtree and Mike Musk each shot 42 in Watseka's loss to Peotone.

At Danville. Danville defeated Champaign Central at Turtle Run Golf Course behind medalist Zach Bell's 39.

In girls' golf:

At LeRoy. Molly Marcum shot 46 in LeRoy's victory against Tri-Valley.

At Urbana. St. Thomas More defeated Effingham St. Anthony behind 44s from Megan Deedrich and Kelsey Gallivan.
