Oakwood's Schmit sets shutout mark

FITHIAN – Oakwood's 3-0 soccer win against Georgetown-Ridge Farm on Tuesday turned out to be one full of records.

Goalkeeper Ben Schmit recorded four saves to secure his school-record sixth shutout of the season, and the Comets' win was their ninth of the season, which ties a school record. Kegan Decker scored twice for Oakwood on passes from David Tuggle. Austin Haskins added another score for the Comets.

Monticello 2, Warrensburg-Latham 1. Brett Winterbottom and Dylan Lambert each scored unassisted goals for the host Sages, who improved to 12-3-2.

Hoopeston/Bismarck-Henning 2, Salt Fork/Westville 0. Kraig Vanwieringen scored a pair of goals and goalkeeper Tyler Davis recorded his 13th shutout of the season for visiting Hoopeston/B-H.

Normal Community 2, Urbana 0. The visiting Tigers failed to score in the Big 12 match.

Urbana University High 2, Unity 0. Jasper Maniates-Selvin and Dan Lilly each scored for the visiting Illineks.

Danville 5, Mahomet-Seymour 4. Blake Janesky scored a pair of goals for the visiting Vikings. Michael Brooks recorded a hat trick for the Bulldogs.

In volleyball:

At Buckley. Chelsea Kendall had five kills and four aces for Buckley Christ Lutheran in a 27-25, 25-12 loss to DeLand-Weldon. Abby Armstrong had 16 digs and eight assists for the Crusaders.

At Normal. Maddy Lorenz had 18 assists and Kayla Bochte added 12 digs for Judah Christian in a 25-22, 25-13 win against Normal Calvary. Bailee Dunlap added 12 kills and two aces.

At Tuscola. Sam Kohlbecker's 12 assists led Tuscola to a 25-19, 25-15 win against Sullivan.

At Moweaqua. Dani Gooch had 13 assists and four kills for Unity in a 25-19, 25-18 win against Central A&M. Nicole Keenan added eight kills, and Jessie Spencer had seven kills.

At Rantoul. Paige Harms and Shana Calhoun each had six kills and Tina Aguirre added 11 digs for Rantoul in a 25-16, 25-13 win against Prairie Central.

At Danville. Mariah Burgess had five kills and seven digs and Molly Facer added 16 assists for Urbana in a 25-15, 25-20 Big 12 win against Danville.

At Fisher. Becca Millage had 12 digs and six kills and Morgan Buerkett had 10 kills for St. Thomas More in a 26-24, 25-22 win against Fisher.

At Cissna Park. Samantha Stoller had seven kills and two blocks for Cissna Park in a 21-25, 27-25, 25-23 loss to Ridgeview.

At Urbana. Chumin Gao and Michelle Wong each had six aces and Wong added 19 assists to lead Urbana University High to a 17-25, 25-13, 25-12 win against Decatur Christian. Rachel Harmon added 10 kills and two blocks for the Illineks.

At Milford. Taylor Franzen had 17 digs and Kara Carter had 10 kills for Armstrong-Potomac in a 25-17, 25-27, 25-22 win against Milford.

At Maroa. Julie Walsh had four kills and 14 digs for Monticello in a 25-14, 25-20 loss to Maroa-Forsyth.

At Danville. Serena Calhoun had 10 kills and 36 digs for Schlarman in a 24-26, 25-21, 26-24 loss to Bismarck-Henning.

At Catlin. Britny Hoag had eight aces and seven kills and Maddy Stutsman dished out 31 assists for Salt Fork in a 25-22, 20-25, 25-16 win against Oakwood.

At Mahomet. Abbie Magrini had 17 assists and Corrie Magrini added eight blocks for Mahomet-Seymour in a 25-16, 25-13 loss to Eureka.

In boys' cross-country:

At Champaign. St. Thomas More's Sean Kelley crossed the finish line in 16 minutes, 38 seconds to finish in second place and lead the Sabers to a triangular win against Clifton Central and St. Joseph-Ogden. Phillip Wozniak, Ben Brown and Justin Telthorst finished fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively, to power St. Thomas More.

At Danville. Georgetown-Ridge Farm/Chrisman's Matt Avenatti edged Villa Grove's Adam Crutchley by four seconds to win individual honors and lead the Buffaloes to a dual win against the Blue Devils. Joey McNulty finished third and David Willming fourth for G-RF/C.

At Sullivan. Cameron Harvey finished first and Drew Bandelow third for Sullivan/Okaw Valley in the Redskins' victory against Shelbyville, Tuscola and Riverton.

In girls' cross-country:

At Champaign. St. Thomas More's Theresa Welle, Lizzie Anderson and Kathryn Boyer were the top three finishers in the Sabers' win against St. Joseph-Ogden.

At Danville. Shiloh's Lauren Bogle finished the 3-mile course at Forest Glen in 20 minutes, 45 seconds to claim individual honors in a meet featuring runners from Georgetown-Ridge Farm/Chrisman and Schlarman. Villa Grove's Marla LaPayne finished second, and Schlarman's Ali Brickowski placed third.

At Sullivan. Laura Knight finished second and Lisa Ponder third to lead Tuscola to a second-place finish in a quadrangular against first-place Shelbyville, Sullivan and Riverton.
