Bushue's hat trick propels Chargers

CHARLESTON – Jacob Bushue provided all the offense Centennial needed in a 3-0 boys' soccer win against Charleston on Wednesday.

Bushue scored all three Chargers goals, with Ben Flodstrom and Jesus Sanchez providing assists.

Goalkeeper Andy Drackley stopped 10 shots to earn the shutout.

Hoopeston Area 4, Schlarman 3. Ian Park scored a pair of goals and Matt Benjamin added another for the Cornjerkers, who won on penalty kicks. Jerardo Guerrero, Refugio Guerrero and Zane Dillon each scored for the Hilltoppers.

Unity 4, St. Joseph-Ogden 2. Patrick Mannon, C.J. Webb, Ben Winn and Eric Wenzel all scored goals for the visiting Rockets. Dan Schuele and Josh Hall each scored for the Spartans.

Blue Ridge 2, Fisher/GCMS 2. Kevin Price scored a pair of first-half goals for Blue Ridge, but host Fisher/Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley fought to a draw, thanks to goals by Chase Kelley and Raul Venegas.

In tennis:

At Mount Zion. Paige Reid, Taylor Bailey and Celeste Kim picked up singles wins for the Chargers in a 5-4 loss to Mount Zion. Bailey teamed with Jenny Olmstead to win in doubles for Centennial.

In volleyball:

At Arcola. Katie Davis had nine kills, two aces and three blocks for Arthur in a 25-20, 17-25, 25-18 win against Cerro Gordo at the Little Okaw Valley Conference tournament. Katie Chapman added 10 digs and 17 assists. Haley Witts had eight kills for Cerro Gordo in the loss. Stefanie Gaitros added three kills and four blocks for the Broncos.

In other LOVC action, Sadie Baird had nine kills for Tri-County in a 25-13, 25-19 win against Okaw Valley.

At Cissna Park. Haley Dodd dished out 11 assists and Samantha Stoller had six kills and four blocks for Cissna Park in a 25-19, 17-25, 25-22 loss to Manteno.
