Calcagno paces M-S

MAHOMET – Maddie Calcagno scored a game-high 14 points – including 12 in the second half – to lead Mahomet-Seymour to a 42-38 Corn Belt win against Eureka on Monday night in girls' basketball action.

"I thought Maddie Calcagno had a great game," M-S coach Nathan Seal said. "She was a strong inside presence. We made some adjustments and she was able to have a big second half for us."

Amanda Wallace added eight for the Bulldogs. Hillary Veitch and Kelsie Donley – who hit two free throws with 1.5 seconds remaining – each scored six points for M-S.

Villa Grove 63, Oblong 14. Eleven players cracked the scoring column for Villa Grove, led by Lizzy Smith's 16 points. Amanda McCollom and Tanaya Behl each scored eight for Villa Grove, which led 27-0 after the first quarter.

Bismarck-Henning 61, Milford 36. Jessica Brito and Jeni Free each scored 17 points to lead the visiting Blue Devils. Lori Haas added 11 for Bismarck-Henning.

Jessica Cann led Milford with 11.

Oakwood 53, Georgetown-Ridge Farm 17. Amy Martin led all scorers with 33 points to boost the visiting Comets, who didn't allow a point in the fourth quarter. Sawyer Winland scored 10 for G-RF.

CPCI 37, Clifton Central 22. Haley Dodd scored a team-high 11 points and Taylor Redeker added 10 points and four rebounds for the host Timberwolves.

Prairie Central 59, Olympia 33. Whitney Scurlock scored a game-high 20 points for the visiting Hawks. Abby Popejoy added 16 for Prairie Central.

Tri-Valley 46, Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley 38. Shannon Zimmerman's 17 points and Angel Gaesser's 10 weren't enough for the host Falcons (2-4, 0-2 in Heart of Illinois).

St. Thomas More 64, Paxton-Buckley-Loda 41. Maggie Fitzgerald scored 14 points and Lisa Clarkson added 13 for the visiting Sabers. Taylor Rubarts had 13 points, seven rebounds and four assists for PBL.

LeRoy 59, Fisher 54. Sarah Hintz (19 points), Molly Marcum (13) and Jorgia Hanlin (11) powered the visiting Panthers to the win. Savannah Piety had 17 points and Madison Bayler 14 for the Bunnies.

Blue Ridge 28, Heyworth 25. Melinda Wilson scored a game-high 12 points for the host Knights. Jacquelyn O'Neal pulled down 10 rebounds and had eight assists for Blue Ridge.

Chrisman 54, Westville 28. Brooke Wolfe led all scorers with 20 points and teammate Paige Thevenin added 17 for the visiting Cardinals.

Cerro Gordo 43, Arthur 40. Tara Phelps poured in 14 points while Kayla West and Haley Witts (eight rebounds) added 12 for the visiting Broncos.

Momence 46, Iroquois West 24. Jen Cox had six points and seven rebounds for the visiting Raiders in a losing effort.

Hoopeston 65, Schlarman 63. Kelsey Norton scored 14 points, including steal and layup at the end of the second overtime to clinch the win for the Cornjerkers. Maggie Bartley also scored 14 points, 22 rebounds and four blocks for Hoopeston, which also got a game-high 23 points from Lacey Simpson.

In wrestling:

At Danville. Westville/Salt Fork/Georgetown-Ridge Farm defeated Schlarman 54-12, thanks to wins by Ryan Lucas (119 pounds), Justin Moore (135), Deonte Adams (145), Austin Neff (215) and Trae Ford (285).
