Maiden, Harris help deliver tourney title

WATSEKA – All-tournament pick Marcel Maiden had a game-high 29 points and 10 rebounds, leading Watseka to a 60-53 overtime victory against Maroa-Forsyth on Tuesday night in the championship game of the Watseka Holiday Tourney.

All-tourney pick Sawyer Harris scored 20 points for the Warriors (8-0).

In the third-place game, all-tournament pick Heath Goodwin tallied a team-high 12 points in Schlarman's 69-44 loss to Momence. Zane Dillon added 10 points for the Hilltoppers.

In the fifth-place game, all-tournament pick Bradley Lawson scored a game-high 15 points and Kyle Ramos added 14 for Hoopeston Area in its 51-43 victory against Donovan.

In the seventh-place game, all-tournament pick Tyler Allison scored a team-high 13 points in Milford's 52-41 loss to Beecher.

Unity 65, St. Thomas More 45. Patrick Mannon had 16 points and nine rebounds for the host Rockets (5-2), who received 12 points from Kyler McFall.

David Boudreau paced the Sabers with nine points. Julian Boswell and Nate Freeman each had eight points in the loss.

BCC 65, Monticello 52. Cale Huisinga poured in a team-high 21 points for the host Sages (4-2), who got 12 points from Reid Johnson and 11 from Clint Brubaker.

Monticello, which trailed 39-25 at halftime against Bloomington Central Catholic, received a game-high-tying six assists from Ben Palla. Adam Koncel pulled down five rebounds in the loss.

Arthur 48, Cumberland 46. Bobby Aikman recorded a game-high 18 points for the host Knights, who received nine points from Carson Petersheim.

Arthur trailed 18-15 at intermission before tying the game at 31 after three quarters.

At St. Teresa tournament. Colin Auth scored a game-high 20 points for Bement in its 74-57 loss to Argenta-Oreana. Brodie Gallagher chipped in 16 points for the Bulldogs, who trailed 35-24 at halftime.

Tim Weaver scored a team-high 13 points for Cerro Gordo in its 62-54 loss to Decatur Lutheran. Nathan Lawler added 10 points for the Broncos, who trailed 29-28 at intermission.

In girls' basketball:

At Ottawa tournament. Whitney Scurlock scored a game-high-tying 20 points, leading Prairie Central to a 72-45 victory against Ottawa.

Abby Popejoy added 19 points for the Hawks, who led 49-27 at halftime. Sarah Oprondek tallied 10 points in the victory.

In wrestling:

At LeRoy. Austin Matlock (103 pounds) and Justin Sexton (152) recorded pins for the Panthers in their 44-21 victory against Petersburg PORTA.

Matlock recorded his pin in 3 minutes, 29 seconds, and Sexton pinned his opponent in 1:30.

Devin Bulington (119) and Tyler Woolridge (140) earned major decisions for LeRoy.
