Simpson sparks Central
MATTOON – Jay Simpson had 16 points and nine rebounds to lead Champaign Central to a 59-27 victory against Mattoon on Friday night in prep boys' basketball.
Nathan Chisholm dished out 11 assists for the Maroons, who led 14-4 after the first quarter.
Normal Community 54, Danville 43. The Vikings could muster only 10 points over the middle two periods in the road loss.
D'Lando Carter scored a game-high 21 points for Danville.
Prairie Central 51, Olympia 49. Mitch McDonald scored 12 points, Ross Taylor added 11 and Josh Fields contributed 10 to lead the visiting Hawks, who had to rally from a 12-point deficit after one period.
Villa Grove 46, Atwood- Hammond 36. Cody Hatcher's 15 points powered the visiting Blue Devils. Earvin Westray added 10 points.
Atwood-Hammond got nine points apiece from Randy Crist and Matt Lee.
Cerro Gordo 73, Shiloh 28. Tim Weaver scored 24 points – sinking four of his team's seven three-pointers – to pace the host Broncos. Jordan Ramay chipped in 12 points.
Travis Hawkins topped the Raiders with 11.
Salt Fork 65, Milford 33. Joel Learnard's 16 points sparked the visiting Storm, which faces the Bearcats again tonight in the first round of the Vermilion County tournament.
Josh Chandler and Jake Manning added 10 apiece for Salt Fork. Terry Short and Aric Cooke had 10 for Milford.
Arthur 69, Okaw Valley 47. Elliott Tinnon had 19 points and Carson Petersheim hit four three-pointers among his 15 points for the host Knights.
Heritage 63, Martinsville 60. The host Hawks placed four players in double figures and rallied after a slow start.
Aaron Larson paced Heritage with 13 points. Koby Brown added 11 and Cole Judy and Nick Umbarger chipped in 10 apiece.
Tuscola 62, Warrensburg-Latham 60. Pat Yoakum scored a game-high 20 points and the Warriors erased a nine-point halftime deficit at home. Jake Stark added 18 points for Tuscola.
Lovington 50, Tri-County 49. Jordan Leynes scored 23 points and Brandon Coff added 10 for the host Panthers. Doug Findley paced the Titans with 12 points. Cole Lewis had 10.
Oakwood 54, Armstrong-Potomac 43. John Garrett scored 14 points and the visiting Comets limited A-P to five points in the second quarter.
Casey Fletcher and Joe Garrett scored 12 points. The Trojans got 11 points from Brett Harris.
Sullivan 62, Clinton 53. Chad Frerichs and Jordan Marks scored 19 points apiece to spark the Redskins on the road. Seth Bowman added 10.
C.J. Bundy had 13 points and 19 rebounds for the Maroons. Aaron Ennis scored 16.
Chrisman 49, Bismarck-Henning 40. Cody Owen scored 12 points and Derrick McCormick added 10 to lead the visiting Cardinals. Stephen Krout had 14 and Michael Grant 10 for B-H.
Westville 49, Schlarman 36. Mitchell Bryant's game-high 16 points propelled the Tigers. Heath Goodwin scored 11 for the Hilltoppers.
Arcola 63, Bement 39. Garrison Stenger scored 14 points to lead four Purple Riders in double figures in the road win. Nicholas Lindenmeyer had 13 and Joey Hackler and Jon James Jenkins added 12 apiece.
Brodie Gallagher scored 14 for the Bulldogs. Colin Auth added 13 points and seven rebounds.
Urbana Uni 64, DeLand-Weldon 30. Warren Skoza's 20 points and six rebounds paced the Illineks, who played without Dan Lilly (flu) and Neil Pearson (leg injury). Jesse Hood had 17 for D-W.
In girls' basketball:
Judah Christian 56, Cornerstone 23. Alyssa Chambers scored 12 points and became the second player in program history to collect 1,000 career points. Teammate Uzuri Williams, the only other Judah girl to reach 1,000, paced the Tribe with 17 points on the road.
