Al-Qadi sparks Chargers in opening win

CHAMPAIGN – Nora Al-Qadi scored in the second minute and Centennial went on to a season-opening 2-0 victory against Urbana Uni High in girls' prep soccer Tuesday.

Grace Ayodele scored in the second half. Keeper Micaela McLennand made two saves. Uni's Eunjung Kim had eight saves.

St. Thomas More 2, Judah Christian 1. Ellie McGrew scored from Ashley Cox in the second half for the decisive goal. The host Sabers also got a first-half goal from Jade Brinkoetter, with Cox assisting.

Kaylee Dunford scored an unassisted goal for the Tribe. Erin Huggett made six saves.

Mahomet-Seymour 3, Monticello 0. Terrisa Nevin, Katelynn Tarrant and Kelsie Donley scored for the visiting Bulldogs. Donley also had an assist.

Keeper Colleen Donohue made 10 saves for the Sages (2-3).

Urbana 1, Mattoon 0. Gretchen Booth scored from Ericka Dix in the second half for the host Tigers in their season-opener.

Christi Stark made seven saves in the win.
