Scurlock paces Hawks; Rahn sharp for Arthur
ARTHUR – Brittany Herring scored 15 points and Kristen Markel added 11 to lead Villa Grove to a 43-41 win against Cerro Gordo on Wednesday night in the Little Okaw Valley girls' basketball tournament.
CHAMPAIGN – Kassie Jones picked up her seventh double-double of the season with 14 points and 12 assists for St. Thomas More in its 59-35 win against CPCI on Tuesday.
CHAMPAIGN – Colin McGill and Mike Lacine helped their fellow Champaign Central senior swimmers go out in style Wednesday night as the Maroons celebrated Senior Night by knocking off Centennial in a Big 12 dual at Unit 4 Pool.
McGill won the 100- and 200-yard freestyle, and Lacine won the 100 backstroke. Lacine swam legs on winning 200 medley and 200 free relay teams.
CHAMPAIGN – Centennial's wrestling team got eight wins by pinfall in a 63-15 victory against Danville in a dual meet Wednesday.
Picking up those wins were Colin Rotramel (103 pounds), Cam Pickett (130), Nick Congdon (135), Barrett Armstead (140), Lucas McCarty (152), Shain Andel (160), Islam Sharabash (171) and Dakota Tiger (189).
LINCOLN – Douglas Lindsey pinned both of his opponents as Centennial defeated Lincoln 52-29 and lost 61-12 to Mahomet-Seymour on Tuesday in wrestling.
The Bulldogs, who won the meet, got two pins apiece from Branson Painter (103 pounds), Tyler Fancher (160), Brandon Robinson (215) and Charlie Miller (heavyweight).
DECATUR – Champaign Central received two pins apiece from Blake Allen-Davis (119 pounds) and Stephen Boatright (130), and a pin and tech fall from Adam Acheson (160) as the Maroons defeated MacArthur 70-10 and Eisenhower 83-0 in Big 12 wrestling action Tuesday.
CHAMPAIGN – Urbana's girls' basketball team rallied to defeat Rantoul 44-29 Tuesday to win the Blue Star Country Classic championship.
The Illinois Supreme Court today agreed to hear Provena Covenant Medical Center's appeal of a 4th District Appellate Court decision that removed the Urbana hospital's property tax exemption.
URBANA – Urbana's Katarina Marjanovic defeated Kankakee's Charisma King 6-0, 6-4 in the championship singles match to advance to next weekend's state tennis finals.
Marjanovic, a junior, entered the Urbana Sectional with a 12-1 record and won all four of her matches Saturday.
