SAVOY – Ryan Murphy fired a 75 to lead St. Thomas More to a win at the 15-team John Macek Invitational on Monday at the University of Illinois Orange Course.
Sophomore's ace marks fine start for Chargers
MAKANDA – Unlike four of her Centennial golf teammates, Lizzy Dombroski didn't return from Monday's season-opening tournament with a trophy.
CHAMPAIGN – Tyler Stefan allowed only two hits Tuesday as Centennial picked up another Big 12 win with a 12-0 triumph against rival Urbana.
Kaleb Wachala (three runs), Collin DeDecker and Neil Hamilton each drove in two runs for Centennial. Addie Aina (two runs), Kyle West and Josh Beamer each drove in one.
CHAMPAIGN – Nick Kresca pitched five innings of no-hit ball in relief for Champaign Central in a 9-2 victory against Argenta-Oreana on Monday in prep baseball.
Cam Strang had two hits and five RBI. Eric Wilson added two hits, and Rob Smith had two stolen bases and three runs.
FARMER CITY – Organizers of the Farmer City Fair say that this year's event, set for July 17-21, will be the last held at its current fairgrounds.
In addition, auto races at the Farmer City Raceway will no longer be held at the fairgrounds after 2008.
CHAMPAIGN – There's a reason baseball isn't a winter sport.
That wasn't always evi-dent Saturday, when self-preservation occasionally took priority over hits, runs and errors.
CHAMPAIGN – Neil Hamilton needed a few extra swings in the on-deck circle to get loose before each at-bat Friday. The 32-degree temperature, brisk wind and flurries made it difficult to get warmed up and stay warm. Once he was loose, though, the second baseman was unstoppable at the plate.
Hamilton went 3 for 3 and scored two runs, leading Centennial to a 9-2 victory against Kankakee. Collin DeDecker and designated hitter Dan Plecki also scored two runs for the Chargers. DeDecker was 2 for 4. Plecki went 3 for 4.
GEORGETOWN – Caleb Taylor went 3 for 4 to lead Salt Fork to a 12-2 prep baseball victory against Georgetown-Ridge Farm on Wed-nesday.
Taylor added two RBI. The Storm's 13-hit attack also included three hits and two RBI from Justin Learnard. Bryn Eakle and Kyle Koerting added two hits and two RBI for the Storm.
MAHOMET – Amanda Greco scored two first-half goals to help visiting Champaign Central to a 2-1 victory against Mahomet-Seymour in girls soccer Tuesday. Ann Pataky made four saves for the Maroons.
Cat England-Sullivan scored for Mahomet-Seymour.
ORLANDO, Fla. –Julian Butler was 3 for 3 with two doubles and three RBI to help the Urbana to a 10-7 win against Hixson (Tenn.) on Tuesday.
Matt Rosenberger drove in two runs and scored twice. Sophomore Matt Brownfield earned the win in his first varsity start.
