FITHIAN – Oakwood's 3-0 soccer win against Georgetown-Ridge Farm on Tuesday turned out to be one full of records.
Goalkeeper Ben Schmit recorded four saves to secure his school-record sixth shutout of the season, and the Comets' win was their ninth of the season, which ties a school record. Kegan Decker scored twice for Oakwood on passes from David Tuggle. Austin Haskins added another score for the Comets.
GIBSON CITY – Seth Trolia (74) tied for the low score and Mahomet-Seymour placed Adam Guth (80), Grant Dukeman (80) and Garrett Cox (81) in the top 10 to capture the Corn Belt Conference championship Saturday at Railside Golf Course.
At Normal. Normal Community edged Centennial in a sudden-death playoff to capture the Unit 5 Best Ball tournament at Ironwood Golf Course. Centennial's Robb Cozad and Peter Black (72) and Urbana's Ben Thompson and Henry Bethke were among the twosomes that tied for fourth.
MAHOMET – Alexis Freund shot 86 to earn medalist honors and lead St. Thomas More to the Sangamon Valley Conference title Thursday at Lake of the Woods Golf Course.
The Sabers' Claire Dabrowski was second with a 90. St. Thomas More shot 365.
URBANA – Maria Mears, Sanjana Anil, Michaela Kearney and Emily Lydic won singles matches as Centennial edged Urbana 5-4 in a Big 12 girls' tennis match Wednesday. The Tigers went 2-1 in doubles but couldn't hold the lead. Katarina Marjanovic won in singles and doubles for Urbana.
CHAMPAIGN – Lauren Drennan and Sunny Strader each won two individual events and swam on a pair of first-place relays to lead Danville to victory in a three-team girls' swimming and diving meet Tuesday at Unit 4 Pool.
St Thomas More girls' golf team tops defending champs
MATTOON – Jonathan Lukusa and Adam Blackman each had a goal and assist as Urbana stayed unbeaten in Big 12 play with a 4-1 win against Mattoon on Saturday. Julian Threlkeld had four saves for the Tigers (3-0-2 Big 12).
At Chatham. Micah Walker's goal carried Champaign Central past Freeport 1-0. Despite a 3-0 loss to Chatham Glenwood, the Maroons won the tournament due to a tiebreaker.
MAHOMET – The Centennial Chargers scored four first-half goals en route to a 5-3 nonconference victory against Mahomet-Seymour in boys' soccer play Thursday.
GIBSON CITY – Fisher's Cody Warmoth's 2-under-par 34 earned him medalist honors in the Bunnies' triangular win against Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley and Iroquois West on Wednesday in boys' golf at Railside. Kevin Clore finished second with a 38.
