St. Thomas More volleyball
The Sabers won the Sangamon Valley Conference tournament in dominating fashion. STM swept its three foes in straight sets, led by Erin Wachtel, who had 30 assists and eight service aces for the tourney. In the title match, Becca Millage had seven kills and six digs. Jenna Einck had six kills.
The Sages (13-7-2) were impressive in their first three postseason matches, beating Heyworth, Warrensburg-Latham and St. Teresa by a combined score of 13-0 before prevailing in a 4-3 nail-biter against Schlarman that sent them into the Elite Eight. Monticello fell 2-0 to Rochester in the sectional title match.
St. Joseph-Ogden football
The Spartans made it to the playoffs for the 18th consecutive season thanks to a come-from-behind win at home against a determined Paxton- Buckley-Loda squad. SJ-O trailed 14-0 at the half before erupting for 26 second-half points to finish the regular season at 5-4. The Spartans won their final two games.
Mahomet-Seymour girls' cross-country
Bonnie Moxley's Bulldogs won their fourth straight regional crown thanks to the performance of individual champion Amy Clawson. Clawson finished the 3-mile course at Normal's Maxwell Park in 18 minutes, 31 seconds. Hannah Schaap, Katie Pittman, Amanda Rodriguez and Rachel Rodriguez all finished under 20 minutes.
