N-G Teams of the Week

T. JOSEPH-OGDEN

Boys' basketball

Brian Brooks and his Spartans continued a remarkable streak of dominance in their own tournament, winning the Leader Classic for the sixth year in a row. The crown clincher was no easy feat, SJ-O rallying in the fourth quarter to knock off Olympia – then the state's No. 4 team in Class 2A – 65-61. Spartans seniors Jake Firkins and Josh Dees earned all-tournament spots.

SALT FORK

Basketball

Dave Ellars' girls and Aaron Hird's boys made the school trophy case a more crowded place by winning holiday tournaments. The Storm girls captured a showdown of one-loss teams, edging host Bismarck-Henning 47-45 in the title game of the Blue Devil Classic. In Broadlands, the Storm boys handled Clifton Central 62-52 to clinch the Hayden's Athletic Classic crown.

RIDGEVIEW

Boys' basketball

Rodney Kellar's Mustangs capped a 4-0 run in the Monticello Holiday Hoopla tournament by rolling to a 64-48 win against the host Sages behind Bradley Ghere's 36 points. Ghere scorched Monticello with eight three-point baskets in the title clincher. Three Ridgeview victories were by at least 16 points, the exception a 57-52 triumph against Neoga after leading 44-33.

SHILOH

Girls' basketball

Dave Tingley's Raiders ran roughshod through the round-robin Casey's Cardinals Classic in Chrisman, winning all five games by an average of 26.2 points. Shiloh's toughest test came in the finale, a 42-33 triumph against the host Cardinals. That game was typical of the stingy defense played by the Raiders, who limited five tourney foes to an average of 28.8 points.
