TUSCOLA – Jud Wienke initially thought he would miss six to eight weeks after breaking his collarbone Monday in practice. But the Tuscola junior quarterback learned Thursday the injury will sideline him for the 2009 football season.
"I went in there and they told me they could do surgery to fix it, but that probably wouldn't be a good idea," Wienke said. "They don't want to risk other stuff happening because it's so close to the heart. There could be a whole mess of things go wrong."
Doctors told Wienke he could be healed in as soon as 10 weeks, but it also could take up to 20 weeks.
In Wienke's absence, sophomore Phillip Meyer is expected to start at quarterback for the Warriors.
"I'm not worried about Phil at all," Wienke said. "He's been there all summer working hard just like everyone else. He's got a good arm, and we shouldn't have to change the offense for him."
