Parker & Co. end three-year skid against Watseka

St. Thomas More    20
Watseka    8

WATSEKA — Freshman Josh Parker’s 27-yard touchdown run with 9:41 left in the fourth quarter rallied the unbeaten Sabers.

Brett Roos had a key sack as the Sabers stymied Watseka’s final drive, the Warriors failing to move the football after recovering a late St. Thomas More fumble. Quarterback Storm Joop sealed the win with a 28-yard touchdown run in the final minute.

“We haven’t beaten them in three years,” St. Thomas More coach Dan Hennessey said. “It was a sweet victory. We needed it.”

Parker ran 22 times for 210 yards and two touchdowns.

“He’s something special,” Hennessey said. “That kid really runs hard.”

Joop rushed for 95 yards and threw for 127. His clinching TD run came after consulting with coaches.

“He wanted the ball at the end. He saw that the middle was wide open and he took it,” Hennessey said. “I want my senior to take control like he did.”

Cam Eades led the Warriors with 83 yards rushing.
