Vikings lose another nail-biter

Normal West 28, Danville 21

The Vikings’ 1-3 season record is 1-1 in games not decided in the final minute. State-ranked Normal West scored on a 19-yard run with 26 seconds left at Whitesell Field.

Trent Sherfield, who passed for 133 first-half yards, fired three touchdown passes for the Vikings, two to Chris Collier and one to Denzel Smith.

“We can play with them. We’re in the ballpark, but we’ve got work to do,” Danville coach B.J. Luke said. “We have to find a way to finish.”

The Vikings led 15-7 at halftime and could have had a larger lead. An 80-yard scoring run by Sherfield was nullified by penalty.

“The bright spot was our defense gave us a chance to win,” Luke said. “The defense was more physical.”
