Hedrick, Spartans run wild

SJ-O    43
Iroquois West    27

GILMAN — Austin Hedrick rushed for 289 yards and four touchdowns as St. Joseph-Ogden kept it on the ground for the road win.

“Our offensive line, they were making pretty good holes, so we kept running the ball,” SJ-O coach Dick Duval said.

The Spartans, coming off a disheartening loss to Clifton Central, attempted five passes. Hedrick did the rest, rushing 42 times.

“He’s pretty sore right now,” Duval said. “He’s a tough kid, an all-state wrestler.
“We kept giving him the ball, and it seemed to work.”

Jake Stewart returned a kickoff 80 yards for a touchdown for the Spartans, who allowed Iroquois West to stay within striking distance because of shoddy tackling.

“We didn’t tackle well at the end,” Duval said. “That’s a worry.”
