Vikings show true grit

Danville 34, MacArthur 31

DECATUR — After giving up 31 first-half points and trailing by five, the visiting Vikings shut out the Generals the rest of the way and pulled out the win on Chris Collier’s fourth touchdown early in the fourth quarter.

Collier caught two TD strikes from Trent Sherfield and took over at quarterback after Sherfield suffered an ankle injury. Both of his second-half scores were on short runs.

“We fought through some adversity,” Danville coach B.J. Luke said. “This was a good one. We were able to run the ball.”

Most importantly, Danville was able to stop MacArthur. “The defense played hard,” Luke said.
