Unity continues playoff streak

CLINTON — Unity kept two streaks going in Friday’s 40-14 Okaw Valley win against Clinton. The Rockets stayed unbeaten in road games (4-0) this season and, more important, clinched their 20th consecutive trip to the playoffs.

“That’s a nice accomplishment for the entire program,” Unity coach Scott Hamilton said. “I’m proud of that and proud of this group of kids.”

Since a disheartening home loss to Decatur St. Teresa, the Rockets have rebounded with consecutive wins.

Against Clinton, Unity rolled up 395 yards of offense in the first half for a 40-0 lead.

“We all had to dig deep after the St. Teresa game,” Hamilton said. “The kids came out and worked hard and got a nice win against Monticello last week. Then they came in tonight and took care of business.”

Conner Grace rushed for 186 yards and two touchdowns. Justin Deters rushed for 80 yards and a touchdown and also scored when he returned an interception 71 yards.

Mitchell Snodgrass had two interceptions and Tyler Clark also picked off a pass for Unity, which has seven interceptions in its two-game win streak.

“We’re improving,” Hamilton said. “The last few weeks we’ve been focused at practice. Kids are starting to understand their roles.”

Colton Reed rushed for 45 yards and a touchdown, had five solo tackles and a sack. Tyler Crowl also had five solo tackles.
