Vikings offense sputters in opener

DANVILLE — The home-team Vikings were held scoreless until the second half Friday and dropped their season opener 38-16 to Kankakee at Whitesell Field.

Sophomore Justin Daubaris scored on a third-quarter run, and teammate Kemony

Lester returned a kickoff 85 yards for a score after the Kays went ahead 24-6.

“I think we’ll be OK,” Danville coach B.J. Luke said. “We ran the ball decent at times.”

Daubaris added two two-point conversions.
