Centennial 35, Peoria Manual 34. The Chargers' defense stopped a two-point conversion attempt with 1:16 left in the game to edge Peoria Manual in a Big 12 Conference showdown played at Peoria on Thursday night.

The Chargers jumped out to an early 21-0 lead before the Rams crawled back into the game.

Facing pressure from a stout Ram defense, Jaden Roberts-Thomas fired a spiral to wide receiver Tyson Burton, who grabbed the pigskin and reached the end zone for what turned out to be Centennial's clinching touchdown.

Centennial coach Lekevie Johnson said he was proud of the way the Chargers withstood the Rams' comeback attempt.

"We kept up the intensity, and our defense came through with the stop on the two-point conversion attempt at the end," Johnson said.

The Chargers are now 2-3. They next host Danville at 7 p.m. on Sept. 29.

In volleyball

Urbana 2, Champaign Central 1. Raevyn Russell had 11 kills, Maddie Sanders came up with 19 digs and Kaylyn Johnston had 12 assists to help the Tigers outlast the Maroons 29-27, 13-25, 25-17 in a match played at Urbana. Mira Chopra smashed eight kills, and Rylee Hinton blasted seven kills for the Maroons. Brittany Anglin had 16 assists for Central.

Peoria Richwoods 2, Danville 0. Outside hitter Lauren Cox drilled four kills, and setter Audri Hyde had 12 assists for the Vikings in a 25-21, 25-15 loss in a match played at Peoria

Tuscola 2, Central A&M 1. The twosome of sophomore Karli Dean and senior Cassie Russo both amassed 15 kills, junior Natalie Bates came up with 15 digs and senior Isabelle Shelmadine delivered 38 assists to help the Warriors (6-4) outlast Central A&M 23-25, 25-18, 25-20.

Olympia 2, Monticello 1. Addison Wichus came up with 25 digs, and Sophie Morrison had 12 assists for the Sages (6-13) in a 12-25, 25-15, 25-6 loss in a match played at Olympia.

Mahomet-Seymour 2, Charleston 0. Kayin Garner had 18 assists, and Savannah Matthews pounded 12 kills to lead the Bulldogs to a 25-22, 25-17 win in a match played in Mahomet

Deland-Weldon 2, Uni High 0. Deland-Weldon prevailed 25-12, 38-26, Kathryn Dullerud had 10 assists and Maya Greer finished with five kills for the Illineks.

Prairie Central 2, Rantoul 0. Lindsey Hari had six kills to lead the way for Prairie Central (8-4) in a 25-14, 25-19 sweep. Emily Schluter had six kills for the Eagles (4-16).

Oakwood 2, Salt Fork 0. Brenna Durst had six kills to lead the Comets to a 25-13, 25-9 win in a match played at Oakwood.

Tri-County 2, Villa Grove 0. Ali Smith provided 13 kills and five digs and Julia Robertson had 22 assists for Tri-County in a 25-15, 25-8 win.

Georgetown-Ridge Farm 2, Westville 0. The Buffs prevailed in a 25-14, 26-24 match played at Westville. Taylor Cox had five kills, 10 assists and seven digs and Riley Kinney pounded five kills and 13 digs for the Tigers (7-5).

Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin 2, Armstrong-Potomac 1. Ashlyn Clem had eight kills and 10 digs while Grace Harris had eight assists to help the Blue Devils (9-4) prevail 17-25, 25-8, 27-25. Madi Gayheart had 16 digs and 13 assists and Sarah Porter had nine kills and four blocks for Armstrong-Potomac.

Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond 2, Argenta-Oreana 0. Taylor Powell had nine kills while Madison Brown provided 18 assists to propel the Knights to a 25-18, 25-15 triumph in a match played at Arthur.

Watseka 2, Iroquois West 0. Kennedy Bauer's 10 kills and five digs and Emily Bunting's 18 assists and five digs went a long way to help the Warriors (12-6) crush Iroquois West 25-8, 25-13. Alexis Regan had seven digs and Lauren Cultra had three digs for the Raiders.

Heyworth 2, Blue Ridge 1. Avery Fisher had 18 assists and seven digs, Maddy Hopkins delivered 12 kills and Hannah Brackenhoff had 25 digs for the Knights (18-4) in a 25-15, 12-25, 25-9 loss.

Cissna Park 2, Dwight 0. Gabby Wessels garnered 13 kills, Anna Jennings put up 21 assists and Olivia Stoller had seven digs to lead the Timberwolves (11-2) to a 25-10, 25-14 win in a match played at Cissna Park.

Madison Filkin pounded seven kills and Tori Burke smashed four kills for the Maroons in a 25-21, 25-9 loss in a match played in Clinton.Heritage 2, Cumberland 0.Aliya Holloman had seven kills and 17 digs while Gracyn Allen had six kills and nine digs for the Hawks in a 25-21, 25-22 win.

Meridian 2, Sullivan 0. Chloe Riley earned four kills and two blocks for the Redskins in a 25-15, 25-17 loss played at Sullivan. Laine Cameron and Gwen Diepholz both earned five assists for Sullivan.

Bement 2, Sangamon Valley 0. Senior Hannah Foran had 18 digs and 11 kills to pace the Bulldogs to a 25-21, 25-23 sweep in a match played at Bement.

Cerro Gordo 2, Decatur Lutheran 0. Sydney Walker and Anna Peter both provided eight kills for the Broncos in a 25-14, 25-11 victory played at Decatur.

Arthur Okaw Christian 2, Judah Christian 1. Michelle Miller had 10 kills, Kim Dillman had 21 digs and Lyndon Pelmore had 22 assists for the Tribe in a 22-25, 25-23, 25-16 loss. Lillian Messmore had 14 kills, 10 digs and 11 blocks and Ava Yoder had eight kills for victorious Arthur Okaw Christian.

In golf At Ironwood. Central finished second in a four-school tourney, losing to Normal Community but beating Pontiac and Normal West 166-182-203-219. Senior Mia Hayasaki shot a 40 and junior Mackenzie McKoy shot a 42 for the Maroons.

At LeRoy. Caleb Poindexter carded a 36 to lead LeRoy to a 168-173 victory over El Paso-Gridley in a match played at LeRoy Country Club.

At Tuscola. Sullivan's Caden Ellis shot a 37 and Leighton Burcham fired a 38 to pace the Redskins to a 162-181-217 victory over Tri-Valley and Tuscola. Matt Erickson and Colson Poffenberger both shot a 51 for the Warriors.

At Tuscola. Addison Darush shot a 43 and Esther Miller finished at 51 to help Sullivan top Tuscola and St. Teresa 201-211-235. Sydney Hoel fired a 41 and Claire Ring had a 49 for the Warriors.

At LeRoy. Megan Woltkamp fired a 46 and Meredith Hogue shot a 49 to help LeRoy edge El Paso-Gridley 206-207 in a match played at LeRoy Country Club.

At Findlay. Logan Richardson carded a 44 and Cody Richardson shot a 47 for Tri-County, which lost 155-195 to Okaw Valley.

At Urbana. Kait Asklund fired a 39 and Veronica Burton scored a 55 to lead St. Thomas More to a 189-220 win over Watseka.

At Danville. Logan Hoshauer shot a 46 and Cameron Wise fired a 47 to lead Oakwood past Salt Fork 201-213 in a match played at Harrison Park. Jakob Althaus had a 51 and Sam Pratt scored 53 for the Storm.

At Hubbard Trail. Schlarman edged Cissna Park 205-214 behind Gabe Huddleston's round of 50.

In boys' soccer

Centennial 2, Danville 2. The Vikings and Chargers played to a tie in a match played at Champaign. Gage Moore fed Kevin Sanchez for the Vikings' (6-5-1) first goal. Justin Maniquis latched on to an errant clearance for Danville's other score.

Bloomington Central Catholic 3, Unity 1. Midfielder Kenny Mantell scored the only Rocket goal in the first half in a match played in Tolono.

St. Thomas More 7, Monticello 0. Joe Hoffman scored four goals and Bob Kapolnek, Alec Blomberg and Joe Sellett provided single tallies for the Sabers in a match played at Monticello. The win marked Jake Sellett's 34th career shutout. In their last seven games the Sabers have outscored opponents 34-2.

Urbana 1, Normal West 1. Roman Mineyev scored an unassisted goal for the Tigers in a match played at Urbana.

Oakwood/Salt Fork 5, Schlarman 1. Jaydon Rose scored twice and Dawson Rogers, Landon LaBaw and Caleb Lashuay scored once to help the Comets (6-11) triumph in a match played at Oakwood. Taiki Otani scored for the Hilltoppers.

Uni High 6, Judah Christian 0. Rahi Miraftab-Salo had a hat trick, Paul D'Angelo delivered a pair of goals and Isandro Malik's kick also found the net for the Illineks in a match played at Champaign. Goalkeeper Noah Blue posted the shutout for Uni.

Blue Ridge 4, Watseka 1. Brendan Flannell and Landon Magenheimer both scored a pair of goals for the Knights in a match played at Watseka. Preston Schroder scored off an assist from Darrel Collins for Watseka's goal.

Hoopeston Area 4, Georgetown-Ridge-Farm/Westville 1. Sophomore Rhys Root scored two goals and junior Ethan Smith and senior Trey Houmes added single goals to lead the way for the Cornjerkers (8-9). Drew Barney put in a goal for the Buffaloes.

Rantoul 1, Olympia 1. After the two squads were deadlocked at 1-1 in regulation play, Eagle senior captains Alexis Gordillo, Juan Aguayo, Jacob Swiney each scored goals in a 3-2 shootout victory over Olympia.

In girls' tennis

At Atkins Tennis Center. St. Thomas More's doubles teams of Caroline Waddell and Stella Green and Kayley and Noelle Schacht both won to provide the margin of victory in the Sabers' 5-4 win over Bloomington.

At Lindsay Courts, Champaign. Olivia Gunn won in both singles and doubles for Central in a 6-3 loss to Normal West
