Fourteen footballers selected to 2019 Shrine Bowl Game

Fourteen local seniors will compete in the 45th annual Illinois Shrine Bowl Game, a football all-star showcase held in summer 2019.

The Illinois High School Football Coaches Association on Wednesday announced its East and West teams for this event, which is hosted by Illinois Wesleyan.

Twelve area football programs are represented on the East Team.

Lekevie Johnson resigns from Centennial football job

CHAMPAIGN — Centennial football is seeking a new leader after Lekevie Johnson resigned Wednesday.

Johnson announced his decision in a Twitter post, which he sent shortly before the Chargers' athletic department issued a press release on the matter.

Falcons' Barnes lands walk-on offer from Illinois

GIBSON CITY — Bryce Barnes made a statement Thursday.

Two, really.

The first came in the form of a preferred walk-on offer he received from Illinois football, less than a week removed from the senior tight end/linebacker helping Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley to its second consecutive Class 2A state championship.
