GCMS, Monticello fans relishing that unbeatable feeling

CHAMPAIGN — It was a close game, but Monticello High junior Collin Jones was confident the Sages would win.

"We always expect the Sages to win," he said after the game at the team's tent outside Memorial Stadium. "We had some unfinished business from last year, and we took care of it this year and showed them who's boss."

Class 8A: Chicago Brother Rice (13-0) vs. Loyola Academy (10-3), 7 p.m. today

1. Senior John Bean, a 6-foot, 190-pound quarterback, has 2,677 yards of total offense and 32 touchdowns.

2. Senior Dylan Summers, a 6-0, 175-pound receiver, has 931 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns.

3. Senior Joe Fitzgerald, a 6-3, 195-pound linebacker, has 59 tackles, including 13 for loss.

Class 5A: Montini (12-1) vs. Joliet Catholic (9-4), 10 a.m. today

Three Montini players to watch

1. Senior Nick Fedanzo, a 6-foot, 205-pound running back, has carried for 1,235 yards and 16 touchdowns.

2. Junior Deontay Bell, a 5-11, 185-pound quarterback, has completed 42 passes for 656 yards and nine scores.

3. Senior Jackson Bruscianelli, a 6-0, 215-pound linebacker, has made 133 tackles and picked off 13 passes.

Class 6A: Cary-Grove (13-0) vs. Crete-Monee (10-3), 1 p.m. today

Three Cary-Grove players to watch

1. Senior Ben McDonald, a 6-foot-2, 190-pound quarterback, has completed 85 passes for 1,364 yards and 18 touchdowns while rushing for 1,380 yards and 24 scores.

2. Junior Blake Skol, a 5-9, 180-pound running back, has dashed for 1,337 yards and 20 touchdowns.

Falcons don't tip over, nab second straight state title

CHAMPAIGN — P.J. Fleck has "Row the boat." On Friday afternoon, Mike Allen introduced "Don't tip over."

Fleck's Minnesota Gophers lost in Memorial Stadium earlier this month despite that mantra.

Allen's Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley Falcons won inside the same venue because of theirs.
