Uni girls finish second

DECATUR — Decatur Lutheran broke open a close game with a 22-4 surge in the second quarter to hand Urbana University High a 64-32 defeat Saturday night in the championship of the East Central Illinois Conference girls' basketball tournament.

The Illineks, who committed 17 turnovers, received 13 points apiece from Jamie Blue and Emma Hoyer. Hoyer also had eight rebounds and three blocks, while Blue added six assists and three steals.

Uni High was undefeated against ECIC opponents this season before Saturday.

DeLand-Weldon 36, Judah Christian 32. Victoria Bennett had 10 points and Libby Neathery added nine as the Eagles won the third-place game in two overtimes. Allison Wolf had eight points and Leslee Chambers added six points and 10 rebounds for the Tribe.

Calvary Christian 49, Buckley Christ Lutheran 41. Andrea DeBella was 6 of 6 from the foul line and scored 17 points for BCL in the fifth-place game. Dani Meyer contributed eight points for the Crusaders.
