Athletes of the Week: McClure and Wallen

Chet McClure

GCMS/Fisher, Junior

Recently: The 132-pounder (37-6) didn't allow a point in reaching the Class 1A sectional finals at his weight, then defeated state-ranked John Morrell, from LeRoy, 7-2 to earn a top-four seed for the state meet, which starts Thursday at the Assembly Hall.

In his own words ... "It was a great experience to be able to do. It was a great step in my career. Morrell is a good wrestler."

GCMS has ... greatly impacted my life.

Next year ... is looking promising.

Best thing about my sport ... I learned determination, leadership and accountability.

Who is Dan Gable? One of the greatest wrestlers and role models of all time.

If I weren't wrestling, I would be ... eating and working on my farm.

Recently: The area's top scoring varsity freshman (14.4 average) scored a game-high 18 points in the Sabers' regional championship win against St. Joseph-Ogden. For the season, she has scored in double figures in 27 of 30 games.

In her own words ... "We all worked together as a team for that one goal (regional title). I try not to think about being a freshman. I try to play as good as everyone else."

I'm dying to see ... "The Vow" again.

I need concert tickets to ... Justin Bieber.

I'm always texting ... Hannah Murray.

Favorite athlete ... Derrick Rose

In 10 years, I will be doing ... hopefully something in the medical field like becoming a doctor.
