Villa Grove 53, PBL 42. LIZZY SMITH scored 18 points and ALIX EZELL, KAYLA DOWLER and COURTNEY HELM eachadded nine as the Blue Devils opened their season with a win at the Tip-Off Classic. Villa Grove took control with an 18-9 run in the third quarter. ERIN LEMLEY (13 points) and KANDACE HOFER (11) led Paxton-Buckley-Loda. GABI LEE had 14 rebounds for the Panthers. “First-game jitters out of the way,” PBL coach CLARISSA GROSS said. “We let one slip away.”
SJ-O 40, Iroquois West 30. BAILEY TRIMBLE scored 21 points and triggered a third-quarter burst as St. Joseph-Ogden won a Tip-Off Classic game. Trimble buried five three-pointers and scored 19 of her points in the second half. ASHLEY BEALS had nine rebounds and EMILY DUNLAP added five. TAYLOR CULTRA led Iroquois West with 13 points.
GCMS 43, Schlarman 40. KATIE MASSIE scored 16 points and BRIANNA WALL added eight as Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley held on despite going 8 for 20 at the free throw line in Tip-Off Classic action.
Fisher 49, Dwight 24. A dominating performance by CAITLIN COLE helped the Bunnies roll in Tip-Off Classic play. The 6-foot-2 junior scored 31 points, making 14 baskets. Fisher raced to a 14-3 first-quarter lead and never looked back.
A-O 49, Arcola 46. KANDIE BLOCH’s 35 points rescued host Argenta-Oreana. Bloch added six steals and 11 rebounds in an all-around gem of a game. TAYLOR EDWARDS had 16 points for the Purple Riders, who got 11 from RACHEL FISHEL.
Clinton 40, Mount Zion 25. MORGAN HICKMAN scored 16 points and the Maroons held the Braves to six first-half points. HALEY TOOHILL added seven points for Clinton.
G-RF 45, Heritage 42. CALLAN HALL had 16 points and 11 rebounds as host Georgetown-Ridge Farm held off the Hawks, who missed a shot to send the game into overtime. BRITTANY HAY also scored 16 points and pulled down eight rebounds for the Buffaloes, who led 21-20 at the break. DALLAS McCORMICK paced Heritage with 13 points and five rebounds. MARY HAPP added seven points and eight rebounds in the loss.
Eureka 54, LeRoy 43. SHANNON STEFFEN had 15 points and LAUREN RUSSELL chipped in 13 for host LeRoy, which was done in by a cold-shooting third quarter. Steffen also had four assists.
Watseka 58, Tri-Point 43. DEVIN CURRY erupted for 27 points and TAYLOR BAUER added 12 as the Warriors won in Timberwolf Tip-Off action. Curry had 17 of her points in the second half to help Watseka hold on. She added eight rebounds and six assists. “Our play was sloppy and pretty typical for a first game of the season,” Watseka coach REBECCA SWIGERT said. “Our free throws were a positive and helped seal the win.”
Cissna Park 60, Donovan 23. AMANDA MONTGOMERY paced a balanced scoring attack with 15 points and Cissna Park was dominant on the defensive end. LOGAN KAUFMAN had 12 points, ALEXIS KNAKE 10 and ADDISON STOLLER eight in the Timberwolf Tip-Off game.
Maroa-Forsyth 67, Cerro Gordo 33. STEPHANIE SHOOK scored 13 points in the loss. ARIONNA GANT added 10 points, 13 rebounds and five blocks for the Broncos.
