URBANA — Good things come in twos for Emma Hoyer. The Urbana University High senior is one of eight area athletes averaging a double-double in girls’ basketball.
“That’s been my trademark,” said Hoyer, who secured her 18th double-double in 21 games Thursday as the Illineks upended Judah Christian 42-28 in an East Central Illinois Conference game at Kenney Gym.
Hoyer had game-high totals of 16 points and 14 rebounds in Uni’s Senior Night contest.
“The night is not about me,” Hoyer said. “It’s about us winning.”
She won’t stop doubling up any time soon. Hoyer has committed to Millikin University, where she’s going to participate in basketball and volleyball. That’s not all.
“I’m going to have a double major (elementary education and English literature),” she said. “I’ll have to be good with time management.”
The 6-footer has shown what she can do on the basketball court.
“There’s no one we’ve played who can match up with her,” Uni coach Allie Lindemann said. “She has the midrange game, the ability to drive and there’s her physicalness.”
Hoyer was pleased with her play against the Tribe, but it was an aspect of the team’s play that made her happiest.
“We had our season low for turnovers (eight),” Hoyer said.
Senior Kaila Simpson had 12 rebounds for Uni, and Juliana Trach, the third senior, had seven points and seven rebounds.
Judah was led by Leslee Chambers with 14 points. She had all seven of her team’s first-quarter points.
