Athletes of the Week: Smith and Wallick

Shelby Smith, Shiloh, Senior, Basketball
Recently: Led Shiloh in scoring in all three games of the Little Okaw Valley Conference Tournament, leading the Raiders to a second consecutive title. The title-game win was against an opponent (Tri-County) Shiloh had previously lost to by 17 points.

In her own words: “We’re a very good team, and we’ve been playing really well as a team.”

I’m always texting ... my boyfriend, Cody Bosch.

I’m driving ... a Malibu. It’s really old.

Where did you learn to shoot? My dad

I wear No. 14 because ... when I was a freshman that was the only number left.

Favorite basketball player ... Former Shiloh star Lauren Bogle

My first job was ... as a teller at First Neighbor Bank in Newman.

Next year ... I’m going to Parkland to study nursing.

Recently: Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley/Fisher star is unbeaten, ranked No. 1 in the state at 285 pounds and coming off a championship in his weight division in the 18-school Orion Invitational.

In his own words: “I knew from last year there wouldn’t be as much competition in (my weight class) but that I still had to work hard.”
