All-Area Girls' Basketball: Meet the first team

The numbers: Averaged a team-high 17.2 points and 4.6 rebounds for a 19-9 regional championship team that was state-ranked in Class 1A throughout the season. Averaged 2.9 assists and 2.6 steals per game. A two-year varsity starter at point guard who averaged 14.2 points and 3.6 assists per game as a freshman. A two-time all-Vermilion Valley Conference first-team selection. On pace to score 1,000th point next season.

The numbers: Repeat selection was area leader in free throw accuracy, hitting a school-record 129 of 159 for 81.1 percent. Took 11 charges. Third in the area in scoring (19.5 average), second in three-pointers made (65) and third in assists per game (5.2). Scored a school-record 2,205 points and is 12th on all-time IHSA list with 665 assists, a school record. Ranks 11th on IHSA list for career free throws made (547).

The numbers: An All-Area softball first-teamer and a Class 1A track state medalist joins the area elite in another sport. The top scorer (15.9 average), rebounder (8.2 average) and assist leader (3.4) on a 22-5 team that lost in two overtimes in the sectional finals. Ranked sixth in the area in steals (4.1). Hit 26 three-pointers and sunk 70.3 percent of her free throws (71 of 101). One of area’s top 15 scorers.

The numbers: Third-time first-teamer had school-record 17-steal game (fifth on all-time IHSA list) and school-record 168 assists for season. Her 4.8 per-game assist average was sixth in area. School’s No. 2 career scorer (1,524) and is all-time leader in career steals (654, sixth on IHSA list) and career assists (468).

The numbers: Area scoring leader averaged 24.1 points for 16-9 team. Ranked second in area with 5.4 steals per game. Team’s top rebounder with a 6.6 average. Also averaged 2.1 assists and 1.0 blocks per game. Hit five threes and totaled a school-record 602 points for season. Her 32-point game was also a school mark, as were her 134 steals. Was MVP or co-MVP of two tournaments.

The numbers: Repeat selection and Area Player of the Year was fourth in area in scoring (18.6 average) with a school-record 576 points for the season. Averaged 9.7 rebounds (seventh in area) and raised career school-record mark for double-doubles to 36 with 17. Set Sabers’ single-game record with 12 offensive rebounds against Centennial. Has school’s two best season rebound totals (305 as a freshman and 301 this year).

Sixth in area in free throw accuracy. Averaged 6.3 rebounds per game and led team with 4.0 assists per game (tied for 10th in area).

The numbers: Averaged a double-double (16.3 points and 10.2 rebounds per game) for a 23-9 team that lost in the Class 1A super-sectionals to eventual champion Annawan. Fourth in the area in rebounding with a school-record total (315) and 12th in area in scoring. Needs 269 points to reach 1,000 for career. Shot 63.6 percent from free throw line (117 of 184) and averaged 2.8 steals and 2.6 assists per game. Has 470 career rebounds.

The numbers: Parkland College recruit was area assist leader (6.0 average) and set a school record with 489 career assists. One of nine members in school’s 1,000-point club, finishing seventh with 1,140 points. Averaged 8.1 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.6 steals per game as a senior. Hit 25 three-pointers and ranks second all time with 145 treys. Fifth in career steals (247) and eighth in free throw accuracy (68.6 percent).

The numbers: Repeat selection 10th in the area in scoring (16.4 average) with a mark that’s third-best all time at STM. Set school record with five three-pointers against St. Joseph-Ogden. Tied school record with a 34-point game against McNamara. Her 10 field goals against McNamara are second on STM’s single-game list. Became school’s career scoring leader with 1,594 points.
