N-G Top 10: Girls' basketball

As holiday tournaments sit not far away, preps coordinator COLIN LIKAS returns with another edition of our girls' basketball rankings:

1. Schlarman 8-0 (1)

Coach Keith Peoples' squad didn't give up more than 14 points in either of its two victories last week (Armstrong-Potomac and Hoopeston Area). The Hilltoppers visit Chrisman on Thursday.

2. Oakwood 11-0 (2)

Coach Jeff Ford's group eased past Westville and Georgetown-Ridge Farm in Vermilion Valley action, which continues today against visiting BHRA and Thursday versus traveling Salt Fork.

3. Monticello 7-0 (3)

Coach Dave Beery's unit overcame solid challenges from Central A&M and St. Teresa and must host Warrensburg-Latham and Mattoon on Thursday and Saturday, respectively, this week.

4. Danville 6-1 (4)

A defeat against 2016-17 Class 4A sectional finalist Rock Island is nothing to lose sleep over for coach Demetric Hightower's team, which visits Champaign Central on Tuesday.

5. Watseka 10-0 (5)

Coach Barry Bauer's club outlasted Peotone by two points on the road before dumping host Momence last week. St. Anne pays the Warriors a visit for a rare Wednesday tilt.

6. Tri-County 9-1 (6)

Coach Joe Morrisey's outfit held off both ALAH and Armstrong-Potomac last week. The Titans' three-game road trip continues today with a 6-2 Arthur Okaw Christian squad.

7. Tuscola 6-1 (7)

Coach Tim Kohlbecker's group allowed just 29 points over wins against Arcola and Shelbyville last week. Central A&M comes to town today before the Warriors head to Uni High on Thursday.

8. BHRA 8-2 (9)

Coach Mike Stephens' girls climb one spot in the midst of a three-game winning streak, which included victories over Hoopeston Area and Milford last week. The Blue Devils visit Oakwood today.

9. PBL 7-3 (—)

Coach Nathan Lawler's unit joins the top 10 amid a four-game run of successes, including against Rantoul, Tri-Valley and Clifton Central last week. The Panthers visit St. Joseph-Ogden today.

10. Ridgeview 8-1 (—)

Coach Scot Ghere's team also makes the cut after improving to 4-0 in Heart of Illinois Conference play with two wins last week. The Mustangs host Deer Creek-Mackinaw today.
