Senior Randa Harshbarger, from St. Thomas More, has started all 12 games for Southern Indiana. She is second in the Great Lakes Valley Conference at 3.3 steals per game, sixth with 3.3 assists, and seventh with a 1.1 assist/turnover ratio.

Sabers recovering nicely from slow start

CHAMPAIGN — Ten days after the St. Thomas More volleyball team captured a Class 2A state championship at Redbird Arena in Normal, the Saber girls' basketball group opened its 2017-18 campaign.

LeRoy 81, Blue Ridge 21. The visiting Panthers cruised to the Heart of Illinois Conference win behind 21 points from Nick Perry and 13 points from Payne Mayfield. LeRoy (9-5) hit 12 three-pointers and led 46-11 at halftime. Austin Winemiller scored a team-high eight points for Blue Ridge (3-13).

After wave of postponements, teams keep eyes on the weather

The threat of sleet, snow and freezing conditions led to the postponement of at least 11 high school sports events in East Central Illinois on Thursday, with multiple others affected in some way and the outlook of today's contests unclear.

A number of local high school athletic events have been postponed due to the threat of inclement weather throughout the evening.

Though rain fell around The News-Gazette coverage area Thursday morning and afternoon, more of a wintry mix is expected in the later hours, as well as freezing conditions.
