All-Area Girls' Basketball Coach of Year: Arcola's Nancy Stiff

Why she’s Coach of the Year: In a season in which she coached her 1,000th game and earned her 700th career victory (sixth on the all-time state list), the Purple Riders compiled a 21-8 record, won a regional title and advanced to the sectional finals. Arcola also won its conference regular season and tournament crown, which was a first for this century.

Cobras poised to make history

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — Parkland found itself in fairly unfamiliar territory midway through the second half of Friday night’s NJCAA Division II national championship semifinals — trailing.

Monroe Community College took the lead in the tightly contested game with 11 minutes to play with freshman forward Adre’onia Coleman already totaling a double-double.

Cobras cruise into Final Four

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — Mike Lindemann didn’t rest.

Much like the Parkland women’s basketball team he coaches didn’t let up Thursday night at the NJCAA Division II tournament. Thirty minutes after the Cobras clinched a spot in Friday night’s Final Four with a 99-71 victory against Chesapeake, Lindemann was scouting the final quarterfinal game of the day.

Rantoul grad's loyalty rewarded at Parkland

CHAMPAIGN — Hannah Wascher nearly left Rantoul for greener basketball pastures several times in her high school career, but she stuck with the Eagles through thick (becoming the program’s all-time scoring leader) and mostly thin (25 wins and 90 losses in four years).

Wascher was an early commit to Karrie Redeker at Parkland.
