Dual Parkland hoops national title bids 'a dream come true'

CHAMPAIGN — Before both Parkland basketball teams gathered inside Dodds Athletic Center on Friday afternoon, they were together.

No real surprise there.

“We were just watching March Madness with them downstairs and joking around,” Parkland women’s guard Kerstyn Lowery said. “We’re pretty close with (the men’s team).”

Parkland women fight fatigue to take down region

CHAMPAIGN — After a draining double-overtime win over Lake Land on Saturday, combined with losing an hour’s sleep to daylight savings overnight, Parkland women’s basketball coach Mike Lindemann didn’t know how his team would perform Sunday in the Region 24 title game against Illinois Central College.

Sages girls overwhelmed by BCC's stifling defense

CHAMPAIGN — Defense was at the heart of Monticello girls’ basketball’s 22-win season and its fourth straight regional title — a program first.

Defense was also central to the Sages’ Class 2A St. Thomas More Sectional championship showdown with regular postseason foe Bloomington Central Catholic. Just not necessarily in the way Monticello expected.
