Girls' Golf Coach of the Year: M-S' Matt Mills

Why he’s Coach of the Year: Directed the 16-1 Bulldogs to the first regional title in school history, as well as the runner-up finish at sectionals and ninth place in the Class 1A state tournament.

Season highlight: “The girls had an outstanding year and were able to accomplish all of the goals they set out to achieve. The girls won the school’s first regional championship, finished second at the sectional meet and qualified for state for the second year in a row. The girls were able to post two solid rounds at the state tournament,” Mills said.

A few of my favorite things: The Beatles ... any James Bond movie ... “Thirteen Days: Memories of the Cuban Missile Crisis” ... Mexican food ... The Azteca, in Mahomet ... Chicago Bears ... Menards ... Ford Mustang Shelby GT ... Walking beans ... On my bucket list, to meet the president, to play golf in Scotland and to go to the Super Bowl.

About Coach Mills: ”Coach Mills is an excellent coach. I couldn’t ask for a better coach. I always love how Coach Mills will tell us, ‘The most important thing is to have fun.’ One thing that has helped our team get to the level of excellence is all of our practices. He kept us busy every day practicing and focused on golf.” — Lexus Hornsby, M-S golfer
