MAHOMET — Monticello’s Evelyn Brand and Mahomet-Seymour’s Emily Trolia have been among the area’s best girls’ golfers this season.
Eighteen holes Wednesday at Lake of the Woods Golf Course weren’t enough to decide the best golfer during the Class 1A St. Thomas More Regional.
Brand and Trolia each carded 86s, but Trolia won medalist honors after making par on the first hole of a sudden-death playoff.
St. Thomas More’s Caroline Dodds was third at 90, and M-S’ Maddie Birckbichler was fourth at 91.
The Sages, who received a 92 from fifth-place finisher Kendyl McFarland, totaled 374 to earn team honors.
M-S was second at 393, and LeRoy, behind Jess Wohlwend’s 94, finished third. The Sages, Bulldogs and Panthers each qualified for Monday’s sectional at Railside in Gibson City.
Other area golfers who qualified at Lake of the Woods included Blue Ridge’s Megan Tsevelekos (92), Blue Ridge’s Kylie Beck (95), Schlarman’s Sarah Daily (95), STM’s Taylor During (110), Judah Christian’s Emily Black (110) and Hoopeston Area’s Holly Morgeson (112).
At Pontiac. Iroquois West, behind Lindsey Luehrsen’s 109, placed third behind first-place Bloomington Central Catholic and Pontiac.
Watseka’s Drew Grimes (98), Watseka’s Kate Mueller (102) and Ridgeview’s Makayla Kindred (113) moved on as individuals.
At Charleston. Tuscola, behind Annie Heinz’s 100, finished third to qualify for sectionals. Charleston was first, and Mount Zion was second.
Salt Fork’s Courtney LaFoe (81) Salt Fork’s Camaryn Todd (88), Sullivan’s Emmalee Hortenstine (92), Salt Fork’s Peyton Meade (117) and Arcola’s Bailey Conner (119) advanced as individuals.
In Class 2A
At Savoy. No area teams advanced to sectionals, but Centennial’s Katie Sullivan (96) led area individuals who moved on from the Champaign Central Regional.
Central’s Bella Ritz (98), Centennial’s Grace Khachaturian (99), Central’s Mia Miller (99) and Urbana’s Mary Corkery (99) also advanced as individuals.
Normal U-High was first at 328.
The Chargers were fifth at 407, and Central was seventh at 419.
