Romshek delivers in heavyweight bout

GIBSON CITY – In a matchup of the final unbeaten softball teams in the Heart of Illinois Conference, Gibson City- Melvin-Sibley stayed that way.

By a hair.

Regan Romshek struck out 11 batters and allowed three hits to lead GCMS to a 1-0 win against Tri-Valley on Thursday. Ranked ninth in the Class 1A poll, the Falcons improved to 13-2 overall and 8-0 in conference. Ranked second, the Vikings slipped to 21-4 and 10-1.

Danville 19, Centennial 1. Elisa Ramos went 3 for 4 with two RBI and five teammates had two hits for the host Vikings (7-12, 4-1 Big 12). The Chargers' Shelby Galardy scored the team's lone run.

Arcola 18-3, Villa Grove 1-5. The Purple Riders got homers from Kim Fortney and Mackenzie Thomas in the first game. Marissa Darling was 3 for 3 with three RBI for the Blue Devils in Game 2.

St. Joseph-Ogden 13, PBL 2. Audra James had three hits and Aubrey Welch had three RBI for the host Spartans (23-0).

Mattoon 10-11, Central 0-0. Raynae Hutchinson and Shelby Corbell pitched shutouts for the host Green Wave.

Bismarck-Henning 9, Oakwood 0. Hannah Ohl went 3 for 4 with a stolen base and Allison Baker went 2 for 3 with an RBI for the Blue Devils.

Clifton Central 8, Watseka 2. Erin Cowan went 2 for 3 and Dakota Bohlmann had two RBI for the Warriors (13-11).

Momence 2, Iroquois West 0. Ashley Morris and Lindsay Yoder reached on errors for the visiting Raiders.

Clinton 3, Monticello 0. Shelbi Rentmeister struck out 10 to lift the visiting Maroons. Kaitlyn Barrett went 2 for 3 for the Sages.

Blue Ridge 3, LeRoy 0. Jordan Wheeler struck out 13 and hit a three-run homer in the sixth to lead the Knights (17-6).

Hoopeston Area 8, Westville 2. Kaitlyn Goodrum had three hits, Valerie Austin had three RBI and Erin Henk struck out eight for the Cornjerkers (16-3).

Donovan 8, Milford 6. Ashley McKay was 2 for 3 with a homer and three RBI and Whitney Waterman had two RBI for the host Bearcats.

Salt Fork 11, Armstrong-Potomac 2. Mallory Weber went 3 for 4 with two RBI and Maddison Stutsman went 2 for 4 for the Storm (14-8).

Rantoul 1, Eureka 0. Paige Harms hit the game-winning homer at the Corn Belt tournament.

U-High 7, Mahomet-Seymour 0. Kali Riddell pitched a complete game to lead the Illineks at the Corn Belt tournament.

Pontiac 13, Prairie Central 3. Molly Byrne took the loss at the Corn Belt tourney.

In girls' soccer:

Central 5, MacArthur 1. Kim Vega scored three goals and Anna Rodgers had two for the host Maroons.

Charleston 2, Mahomet-Seymour 1. Amanda Wallace had the lone goal for the Bulldogs.

In boys' tennis:

Mattoon 6, Urbana 1. Leo Giannetta won the lone point for the Tigers.

In boys' track and field:

At Arthur. Bobby Aikman won the high jump, 100 and 200 to pace the victorious Knights.

In girls' track and field:

At Arthur. Stacie McMillan won the 100 and the long jump to lead the victorious Lancers.
