Vega, Slade lift Maroons

CHAMPAIGN – Kim Vega had a goal and two assists to lead Champaign Central to a 3-0 victory against Danville on Tuesday in prep soccer.

Keeper Jordan Slade collected four saves for the Maroons (9-10-1, 3-6 Big 12).

Mahomet-Seymour 6, Mount Zion 1. Kelsie Donley scored twice and keeper Hillary Veitch made five saves for the host Bulldogs (9-5).

Kristin Karkiewicz, Shelby McDonald and Amanda Wallace also scored for M-S.

Bloomington 1, Centennial 0. Keeper Micaela McLennand made seven saves for the host Chargers (11-6-1, 6-3).

In softball:

Centennial 3, Urbana 1. Shelby Galardy went 2 for 2 and drove in a run as the host Chargers (4-20, 3-6 Big 12) beat their crosstown rival. Katie Blas scattered three hits for the win.

PBL 10, Watseka 2. Lauren Mason had two hits and two RBI to pace the visiting Panthers. Ally Edwards added two hits.

Villa Grove 6, Sangamon Valley 1. Rachael Bishop homered and knocked in three runs for the host Blue Devils (8-15, 7-9 Little Okaw). Cami Renfrow added three hits.

Bismarck-Henning 9, Schlarman 8. The host Blue Devils (11-12, 8-5 Vermilion Valley) took advantage of six Hilltoppers errors.

Schlarman, which suffered its first VVC loss, got two hits from Casey Cromwell.

Mattoon 5, Danville 1. McKenzie Hodges had two hits for the host Vikings (9-14).

St. Joseph-Ogden 7, St. Thomas More 0. Jenna Slifer homered and Brittany Earl and Audra James each added two hits for the host Spartans (27-0, 13-0).

El Paso-Gridley 3, GCMS 0. Regan Romshek allowed six hits for the visiting Falcons (15-3, 10-1).

Hoopeston Area 5, Oakwood 0. Erin Henk pitched a three-hitter and Amy Austin drove in two runs for the host Cornjerkers (18-4, 10-3 VVC).

Kaitlyn Goodrum and Kelsey Sollars collected two hits apiece for Hoopeston.

Heritage 5, South Piatt 3. Alex Danner drove in one of Heritage's 10th-inning runs in a road victory. Amy Chromchak went 4 for 5 for South Piatt (12-5).

Pontiac 6, Prairie Central 4. Shianne Busch had three hits and Kirsten Brummett added two hits for the host Hawks (15-13).

Shari Steidinger also had two hits for Prairie Central.

Tri-Point 5, Iroquois West 3. Nikki Pool struck out eight in the Raiders' road defeat.

Haley Pence led the Iroquois West (0-25, 0-11) offense with two hits.

Blue Ridge 4, Fieldcrest 1. Winning pitcher Jordan Wheeler struck out 14 and struck the big blow on offense as the Knights won in the Heart of Illinois Conference tournament in Downs.

Wheeler homered and drove in two runs. Chelsea Reynolds added a double and an RBI.

In boys' tennis:

Centennial 5, Normal 4. The Chargers won two of three doubles matches to secure the victory. David Ruedi and Billy Regan teamed for a straight-sets win at No. 1, while Lupetti Tulua and Akshay Krishnamani combined for a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 3.
