Duo leads Danville

MATTOON – Danville's Josh Viljevac and Cameron Ford won individual titles to help the Vikings finish fifth in the Big 12 boys' track and field meet Thursday.

Viljevac won the 1,600 in 4 minutes, 27.76 seconds. Teammate Matt Cleveland was third in 4:30:45.

Ford won the discus with a toss of 147 feet, 4 inches, edging Mattoon's Cameron James by 3 inches.

Normal West won the meet with 128 points, followed by Bloomington (110), Mat- toon (86), Normal Community (60) and Danville (56). Centennial finished seventh (34), Champaign Central was eighth (18) and Urbana was ninth (13).

Central's 800 relay team finished second in 1:33.03.

Top performances by Centennial included Davin Dollison's third place in the triple jump (42-10) and Ryan Root's third in the 3,200 (9:51.11). Travor Sterling was fourth in the shot put (48-11).

At Gibson City. Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley won the 1,600 relay to edge Heyworth in a four-team meet.

The Falcons scored 76 points, just ahead of Heyworth's 75.5. PBL was third with 63.5.

Individual winners for GCMS were Gage Merritt (pole vault), Cameron Thomas (shot put), Cody Gaesser (110 high hurdles) and Alan Broaddus (1,600).

In softball:

Rantoul 3, Paris 1. Kelsey Gass accounted for all the scoring with a three-run homer for the visiting Eagles.

Hanna Mennenga struck out 16 and scattered eight hits to improve to 17-9. Gass hit her home run in the third, one of five hits for Rantoul.

Danville 11, Champaign Central 1. Kaitlyn Phillips hit two home runs and Elizabeth Comrie had one for the host Vikings. McKenzie Hodges and Mackenzie Stevenson each had two hits for Danville.

Monica Rondon drove in Central's run.

Watseka 8, PBL 6. Andrea Crook had four hits for the visiting Warriors. Katie Lavoie added three and picked up the pitching win. Lauren Mason had three hits for the Panthers.

Eureka 5, Mahomet-Seymour 3. Allison Gwinup had three hits for the host Bulldogs and Naomi Nielsen had two.

A-P 13, Shiloh 3. Four Armstrong-Potomac players had two hits as the host Trojans picked up their second win.

Nicki Rosenberger, Kara Carter, Brittany Moreland and Erin Elliott were the offensive leaders. Rosenberger earned the pitching win, allowing six hits.

HOIC tournament. Regan Romshek had 13 strikeouts as top seed Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley rolled to an 8-3 win against Fisher at Downs. Romshek, Desiree Mouser and Shannon Zimmerman each had two hits for the Falcons. Brooke Clemmons had three hits for the Bunnies.

Ashley Walker homered and Sarah Hintz and Ashley Segerstrom had two hits each in LeRoy's 6-2 win against Tremont. Hintz had 10 strikeouts to pick up the win.

Heyworth's Dakota Springer and Miranda Baldwin had two RBI each in an 8-0 win against Lexington.

In girls' soccer:

Central 10, Eisenhower 0. Amanda Greco, Ellen Moe, Sarah Moe and Kimberlyn Vega each had two goals for the host Maroons. Sarah Kresca and Greco had two assists each as Central evened its overall record at 10-10-1.

Centennial 7, Mount Zion 0. Micaela McLennand picked up her 10th shutout of the season for the host Chargers. Nora Al-Qadi, Grace Ayodele and Hannah Radnitzer each had two goals for Centennial, which improved to 12-6-1.

Mahomet-Seymour 1, Uni High 1. Erika Belmont scored the tying goal with 19 minutes left for visiting Urbana University High. Jamie Blue had eight saves for the Illineks.

Alyssa Drollinger scored Mahomet-Seymour's goal and Hillary Veitch made three saves.
