King, Vikings put on a show

DANVILLE – Morgan King hit for the cycle and drove in nine runs as Danville completed a softball doubleheader sweep with a 16-14 victory against Unity on Saturday.

King had two singles, a double, a triple and a homer. Casey Cromwell added three hits.

The Vikings (6-2) won the opener 18-1 behind Cromwell's two homers, including a grand slam. She drove in six. McKenzie Hodges went 4 for 4 with three RBI. Michaleen Forman added three hits, including a two-run homer.

Centennial 4, Schlarman 0. Courtney Stamm had two hits and Katie Blas scattered five hits for the host Chargers.

Fisher 19, Iroquois West 0. Chelsea Williamson fired a one-hitter to lead the visiting Bunnies. Kalli Gosser had three hits and three RBI.

Hoopeston Area 13, Iroquois West 1. Brooke Kinney's two hits paced the Cornjerkers' 10-hit attack.

Urbana 20-3, Georgetown-Ridge Farm 5-13. Urbana's Jasmine White had five hits, including a homer, in the first game. Catie Brandt's grand slam propelled the host Buffs in the second game. She finished with three hits.

Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley 6, Mahomet-Seymour 1. Regan Romshek had three hits and Desiree Mouser two for the visiting Falcons.

St. Joseph-Ogden 4, GCMS 3. Hannah Bowen knocked in two runs for the Spartans.

Eureka 8-12, Rantoul 6-9. Bridget Schlueter had three hits and two RBI in the first game for the host Eagles (3-5). Carlee Silver contributed three hits in Game 2. Eureka scored seven runs on 10 consecutive hits with two outs in the seventh.

LeRoy 15-8, Cerro Gordo 0-7. Sarah Hintz pitched a one-hitter, striking out 17, in the opener for visiting LeRoy. Stephanie Hintz earned the win in the second game, with Sarah Hintz pitching one inning for the save.

In soccer:

Danville 8, Decatur Eisenhower 0. Elizabeth Sothen, Elizabeth Kapella and Malory Sparnicht each scored twice for the host Vikings.

Centennial 3, Charleston 0. The visiting Chargers (4-1) handed Charleston its first defeat, getting goals from Grace Ayodele, Nora Al-Qadi and Hannah Radnitzer. Keeper Micaela McLennand made three saves.

First Baptist tournament. Kim Montgomery and Ashley Greazer scored in First Baptist's 2-0 victory against Decatur Christian. Keeper Brittani Wasson made five saves in a 1-0 loss against Schaumburg Baptist.

In tennis:

At Bloomington. Danville's doubles teams of Ashish Patel-Yanis Mokraoui (No. 2) and Love Shah-Matthew Kidwell (No. 3) each finished seventh in the 16-team Bloomington Purple and Gold Invitational.

In boys' track & field:

At Champaign. Evan White (1,600 meters), Emmanuel Richter-Shea (long jump, high jump) and Matt Strack (shot put) posted victories for Centennial in the Harold Jester Invitational. Mahomet-Seymour got wins from Colton Fender (110 high hurdles, 300 intermediate hurdles) and Jared Lyons (discus).

At Springfield. Danville's Solomon Crenshaw won the long jump with a state-best 23 feet, 9-inch effort and teammate Anthony Bacoat was second at 22-8 in the Springfield Lanphier quad.

In girls' track & field:

At Homewood-Flossmoor. McKenzie White won the 300-meter hurdles and Shelby Stevenson was victorious in the pole vault for Urbana in the 20-team Homewood-Floosmoor Invitational. The Tigers placed eighth.
