March planned Sunday in support of gay military man

Supporters of gay, lesbian and transgender rights will hold a march starting at 1 p.m. Sunday from the Alma Mater statue at Green and Wright to the Illinois National Guard Armory at 109 E. Park St., C.

The march is in support of Lt. Dan Choi of New York, an openly gay military linguist who is facing discharge under the Don’t Ask Don’t Tell policy.

He and another outed military officer handcuffed themselves to the White House fence to protest against Don’t Ask Don’t Tell and for a transgender inclusive Employment Non-Discrimination Act. They were arrested and will be charged on Monday, according to eQuality Champaign-Urbana, the local sponsor.
