St. Joseph-Ogden wins tournament in Rantoul

TOLONO – Emily Godsell scored on Ana Deters' two-out single in the bottom of the seventh inning as Unity beat Fisher 5-4 in softball action Saturday.

Godsell, Deters and Brooke Chilton (three RBI) each had two hits for the Rockets.

Central tournament. Downers Grove beat Champaign Central 18-1 in the title game.

Central beat Mahomet-Seymour 8-5 in the first game, rallying with four runs in the fifth. Carissa Hoyne had three hits and three RBI and Maeve Aquino and Monica Rondon each had two hits for the Maroons. Courtney Roberts was 3 for 4 and Kendyl Cummins had two hits and two RBI for M-S.

Cummins was 2 for 3 with three RBI as M-S beat Urbana 10-8 for third place. Allison Gwinup, Nicole Smith and Baylee O'Donnell also had two hits.

Sheena McNeil had three RBI and Anastasia Peters had two hits for the Tigers.

Rantoul tournament. Abby Immke and Jenna Slifer homered as St. Joseph-Ogden beat Rantoul 21-6 in the championship game.

For the day, Hannah Bowen was 9 for 11 – including four hits in the title game – for the Spartans. Andi Morgan and Stephanie Canfield each had three hits, and Britani Masters had five stolen bases.

Danville finished fourth.

Abby Wiegand and Felicia Warsaw each had three hits and three runs as Centennial beat Bismarck-Henning 9-1. Julie Cutright and Katie Blas added two hits each. Hannah Ohl had three hits in the loss.

Lizzy Kern was 3 for 4 and Kelsey Gass and Carlee Silver added two hits each as Rantoul beat Centennial 13-2. Sonya Le had two hits in the loss.

Gass had three hits and two RBI and Hanna Mennenga had 12 strikeouts in Rantoul's 8-0 win against Danville.

Kaley Barak and Hannah Schlake each had two hits in Centennial's 10-2 loss to Pontiac.

St. Thomas More tournament. Becca Millage homered and had three RBI for St. Thomas More in its 8-5 loss to Schlarman.

Kelsey Cleland pitched a three-hitter as Tuscola beat St. Thomas More 7-0.

Hoopeston Area 3-14, IW 2-2. The host Cornjerkers broke a tie with a seventh-inning run to make a winner of Valerie Austin in Game 1. Rheann Adams was 2-3 for Iroquois West.

In Game 2, Catherine Braemer and Nikki Fatka doubled in the loss.

Blue Ridge 2, A-O 0. Freshman Jordan Wheeler continue her stellar start, no-hitting Argenta-Oreana and helping her cause with an RBI triple. Wheeler (2-0) has yet to allow an earned run this season.

Jade O'Neal and Jordyn Fones each had two hits for the host Knights.

Salt Fork tournament. Maddy Stutsman went 4 for 4 with two RBI as Salt Fork beat Heritage 14-1. Mallory Weber homered and Megan McCord and Jessie Hetrick each had two hits and two RBI. Stutsman and Taylor Page each went 3 for 3 in an 8-0 win against Paxton-Buckley-Loda. Weber had two RBI.
