Blue Ridge's Gardner shines; Stenger does it all

URBANA – Kirstie Ruthstrom drove home Jasmine White in the bottom of the eighth inning as Urbana beat Decatur MacArthur 7-6 for its first Big 12 Conference softball win Saturday. Reba Perry was 5 for 5 for the Tigers.

Perry was 4 for 4 as Urbana (5-7) completed the sweep 17-6. White was 3 for 5 with four RBI.

Blue Ridge 14, Peoria Manual 0. Staci Gardner pitched a no-hitter and helped her cause with a double and two RBI for the host Knights. Marcie Crawford was 4 for 4 with three RBI, and Melinda Wilson scored three times.

Cumberland Invite. Allison Gwinup was 3 for 3 and pitched a complete game and Courtney Roberts and Ashley Steinhart each added two hits as Mahomet-Seymour beat Ramsey 8-1.

Roberts had a hit in the Bulldogs' 1-0 loss to Teutopolis. Gwinup had a hit and Nicole Smith an RBI in a 5-1 loss to Cumberland.

Unity 1-4, Salt Fork 0-6. Aeriel Fender pitched a three-hit shutout in Game 1 for the Rockets. For the day, Ana Deters had three hits and three runs, Ali Finn had two doubles and Megan Swigart had two hits.

Britny Hoag had two hits, two RBI and two runs for the Storm, which got two hits from Megan McCord and Mallory Weber.

Eisenhower 10-9, Centennial 0-2. Sonya Lee doubled in the opener and Katie Blas had two hits and an RBI in Game 2 for the visiting Chargers in Big 12 play.

Eureka 3-0, LeRoy 2-3. Sarah Hintz, Ashley Segerstrom (two runs) and Jordan Riddle (three RBI) sparked the host Panthers in Game 2.

Ashley Walker was 2 for 3 with an RBI in the opener.

Arcola 13, Heritage 10. Garrnett Stenger doubled, tripled and had two RBI for the host Purple Riders, who got two hits from Holly Henry and Taylor Clark.

Manteno 10-14, Iroqouis West 0-0. Karlyn Wilken, Lindsay Yoder and Catherine Braemer had hits for the visiting Raiders.

At Hoopeston. Amy Austin had two hits and Valerie Austin had two RBI as Hoopeston Area beat Clinton 3-2. The Cornjerkers also lost to Clifton Central 3-2 despite three hits by Kelsey Norton.

At Tuscola. Kayli Plotner had two hits as Oakwood beat Dieterich 10-0. In a 1-0 loss to Hutsonville, Chelsie Bartlett had two hits and Katie Lee struck out six.

At Fairbury. Stephanie Wessels and Paige Heiser each had three hits, and Shianne Busch added two in Prairie Central's 5-3 loss to Streator. The Hawks also lost to Coal City 6-4.

Momence 14-13, STM 2-3. Brittany Einck was 4 for 5 on the day for host St. Thomas More. Becca Millage drove in three runs for the Sabers in Game 2.

At Frankfort, Ky. Randi Cookus smacked a three-run triple for Schlarman to break open a close game and lift the Hilltoppers to a 7-3 victory against Presentation Academy at the Capital City Shootout. Lynzie Fields (2-0) allowed four hits in four-plus innings.

Mariah Skaggs had the lone hit for the Hilltoppers in a 2-0 loss to Western Hill (Ky.).

Normal West 10-12, Central 0-1. Monica Rondon was 3 for 3 with an RBI in Game 2 for the Maroons, who were no-hit in the opener.

Normal C. 6-8, Danville 0-0. Kaitlyn Phillips and Elisa Ramos each had two hits for the host Vikings in Game 2.
