Thomas' arm, bat help Arcola advance to semis
SULLIVAN – Taylor Thomas scattered three hits and struck out 10 to lead Arcola to a 12-3 Class 1A regional softball win against Lovington-Arthur on Tuesday.
Thomas also had two hits and drove in a pair of runs for the Purple Riders.
Gretchen Stenger and Holly Henry each had three hits, two RBI and three runs scored for Arcola.
Ashley Tabb had two hits for the Lancers.
LeRoy 5, Fisher 3. Madison Bayler had two hits for the visiting Bunnies.
Heritage 14, Armstrong-Potomac 3. Lindsey Nickelson (four RBI) and Lauren Jeffers (two stolen bases) each had two hits for the host Hawks.
Ridgeview 3, Lexington 1. D.J. Heisel had two doubles, scored twice and drove in a run to propel the host Mustangs.
In Class 2A:
Hoopeston Area 15, Oakwood 0. Chelsea Willis and Chelsea Rutledge each drove in three runs for the host Cornjerkers. Katie Goodrum and Alexsis Grove added three hits apiece in support of Bryce Franklin, who fired a one-hit shutout and struck out seven.
Fieldcrest 6, Prairie Central 3. Brittiany Tjarks had two hits, scored a run and drove in another for the host Hawks.
In regular season action:
Mattoon 14, Centennial 0. The visiting Chargers were limited to one hit in the loss.
Urbana 18, Champaign Central 8. Monica Rondon belted a grand slam and drive in five runs for the host Maroons.
